2008 F150 issue
So, we inherited the F150 and it has a problem when warmed up. The dealer in CA said it wasn't the transmission and replaced a coil pack. That did get rid of the miss and CEL but the issue is when it is warmed up and you get on a slight grade is hunts between overdrive and drive and it is very unpleasant. Not quite violent, but it is pretty bad. The odd thing is the TPMS light will start flashing at the same time even though there are no low tires.
If I take it out of overdrive the issue goes away and it drives like normal. It does not do any of this the first 15-20 miles. 5.4 Triton if that matters. Also has the tow package. I was tempted to drop some Trans-X in but thought I should have it checked or reflashed first. What are all y'alls thoughts?

Don't know about that issue but with that Triton 5.4, make sure that your spark plugs are tight. I had a 1998 4x4 Expedition Eddie Bauer edition and had a spark plug blow out of the head.

I will double check them. Has 66k miles on it already, but it doesn't hurt to double check. We have only had it since August and it sat inside all winter since it is rust free and we didn't want the fender rust to start just yet.

Can try lightly tapping the brake pedal while its doing this. If its the lockup torque converter slipping the tap will disengage it temporarily. Lubegard Dr.Tranny shudder fix additive might be an answer

I will give that brake tap a try.

The tpms alert is not for low tire pressure...but for something wrong with the system...prob an expired battery in one of the sensors.
Low tire pressure will show as a tire pic.

We had a TPMS light come on in our Nissan Quest and it was a faulty cam position sensor. I replaced it myself, easy peasy.

I know what the TPMS is for, but it comes on the same time the transmission acts up. I am pretty sure there is a bad TPMS sensor in one of the wheels. This does not have the individual wheel readout like higher end models.

Is this a 2wd?
I don't know much about recent F150s but one question that comes to mind: is there any chance your TPMS (being early gen) is an indirect type which doesn't actually measure pressure of the tire but instead measures rotation of the tires and goes off when one is rotating faster than the others (as is the case when a tire is lower pressure so is "smaller")? Still doesn't really illuminate root cause, but is the only intersection I can think of between TPMS and a transmission that is acting wonky in some way.

This is 2WD and I am not sure what type TPMS it has, not really a Ford guy.
My BiL had issues with it for the last two years so we arent sure what the issue may be. He lived in Holtville CA where it was always hot. Here in WI it is pretty decent. Mid 80s last time we drove it and it acted up. Not sure if the fluid gets hot, but with the tow package it should have a cooler on it. Might need a flush at 66k and the heat out there.

Off the wall question: have you checked the charging system and voltage? I have seen low voltage cause all kinds of funky issues that go away when the alternator is putting out correct volts.

I replaced one and then a few months later another. Just replace them all, that's what I finally did. And be sure to use Motorcraft, those aftermarket ones even though cheaper have a bad reputation.

We had two replaced a year ago. This was on the same bank as the other two. I was tempted to tell them to do the other 5 as well at this point.
