Petersen Museum Vault Tour

Incredible array of cars including Porsche 901.
I had never heard of the 901. The guide in the video states that Peugeot made Porsche stop using that series of numbers and that the 901s were destroyed, then the car became the 911.

It was Peugeot’s rights to the middle 0 that made Porsche settle on 911 as its halo-car. That particular 901 was donated and was part of the Porsche Effect exhibit a few years back.

Porsche could not use the name 901, so the bosses told production to scrap all the zeros, and order a lot more 1s and thus the 911 was born.

It is funny, almost everyone pronounces the 901 as Nine oh one, and never nine zero one which is the accurate way to say it. And most everyone calls the 911 nine eleven and not nine one one or nine hundred and eleven.

I was talking to a German colleague of mine and I used the term "neun elf" for 911. He told me they just refer to them as "elfers".

My Drill Sergeants in BCT rid me for life of saying "Oh" for zero. I think it was 50 pushups per occurrence.

I've toured "The Vault" at Petersen, if I remember right, that 901 was discovered at the Pomona Auto Swap Meet years ago.
