Dumb question, if I may
My wife and I are watching "Yellowstone" and enjoying it. But we're wondering why is there no kitchen staff for all those hungry cowboys and cowgirls? The food just seems to appear by itself, and who keeps things tidy? Not the daughter, or her brothers they're too busy with "other" things. Oh, and BTW Kevin Costner was born for that role.
Just curious, not that it matters. ![]() ![]() |

"Gator" is actually the craft service guy for the set. He cooks for the big house/family and occasionally for the hands in the bunkhouse. He appears in a few episodes every season.
Not to spoil but in latter episodes you see the cowboys cooking for themselves in the bunkhouse. BTW, season 5 was announced yesterday starting this November.

The second Prequel has been announced as well. It will star Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, set in the 1930s

They definitely had 1-2 kitchen staff back in the day. Bar U was one of the biggest ranches in Western Canada and there was kitchen staff.

The producers bought the ranch in Montana and moved production from Utah during hiatus. They have their own built in production facility now and will ride this horse until it drops.
Also due to COVID, scenes that take place around the dinner table and with food are kept to a minimum due to production costs and all of the precautions that are needed. This applies to most shows.

Here's an older interview with Carla Curry that describes some of the sets and decor....

I was pleasantly surprised by 1883. I expected it to be crap, especially with Faith Hill and hubby. But actually enjoyed it. Faith wasn't very good but I've always enjoyed his roles: Friday Night Lights, The Blind Side.

here, in Vancouver? sets are zoned to keep contact with the actors to a minimum. everyone is tested on a daily basis, as well. 5 days paid vacation if tested positive. 8 hrs pay for the day moes - for testing - the day previous to showing up on set. half the time? it's really expensive due to the actors insisting on vegan food (that looks like traditional food) even if it's never gonna touch their lips. there's even one Production Manager in town that insists on the vegan option on set - for personal reasons, totally unrelated to production. |
