I am not "against" formula, I am pro-breast feeding.

The people who make formula have created this situation, and have made massive profits along the way.

If you look at what was done in Africa with respect to the propaganda used to push the use of formula in preference to breast feeding, I am confident your opinion would be altered. I have little doubt that worldwide, the introduction and aggressive marketing of baby formula has cost far more lives than it has saved.

I am pro-breast feeding as well.
I never formed an opinion of what you believed one way or the other. I was only trying to reference the people who wrote Shaun saying not to allow advertising.
What I am saying is that some kids need formula for whatever reasons and don't have the option of breast feeding. When there's money to be made because of this I'm sure someone will find a way to capitalize on it, even if it does cost lives vs saving them.
Like so many things in life, it's all about the money.

They sold powdered formula to people who did not have clean water.

I shudder to think how many children they killed

Maybe their opposition to advertising it was a moral stance.

Of course breast milk is 'better' than formula, but unless you are pumping and filling bottles, you have NO idea how much your baby is getting. My wife insisted on breast feeding (1994) and our son was behind on all the growth charts and once we finally switched to formula he literally tripled his weight in 2 weeks. That made me a believer right there. But the reason is that we could SEE how much he was getting.. so unless your pumping and using a bottle, you have no idea if they are getting enough nutrition.

I never even thought about that. Great point. Mom’s milk is a start, a necessary biological source for gut bacteria and formula as the supplement to assure full nutrition.

If they are putting on weight, they are getting enough nutrition. I exclusively nursed for a full year. My son would not take a bottle and he refused to eat baby food. My son weighed 20lbs at 3 months and almost 40lbs at 1 yr old. That said: that kind of weight gain is not normal. I must have produced a lot. In the end: I think you feed your child which ever one works for your family.

On the same subject....the Gerber baby has died, at 95 years old.
From my home-town..she was the Gerber baby that appears on their food.
