not bamboo related, but I recently alerted our power company to a tree with significant rot that was threatening the power lines, they came out and took it down almost right away, they agreed, a dead limb that would fall would take down power to my entire town, and likely those around me.
KC911, I would have your dad call the utility and ask them to take a look, it would be a shame if the bamboo threatened the stability of the tower, much like it compromised the structural integrity of the home mentioned above.

good point Blucille!!
my situation had the bamboo spreading onto city property. when I was taking mine out, I kept imagining it boomeranging back from the stuff on the other side of the fence. I called the city, and told them I was digging it out on my side. it was making it really sprout on the city side. they showed up so fast!! a huge crew and cut it down. they treated the ends with a herbicide. the city manager called me and gave me permission to go onto their property at will to tackle the remaining stubborn bits. that meant I went in and took it ALL out. they let me dump it into their big bins. as time went on, it became kinda fun. it got easier and easier.
