How long ago was that pruned?
|
#2 Different kind of bush. I cut a lot of dead branches out once and then had to do it again yesterday.

This started happening before they were pruned this spring so the pruning is not the issue.
No great dane, no rodents that I can tell. Neither look like the pictures for Cherry Laurel. |
|
I don't think they squish.
Should I try some general disease spray or insect spray and hope for the best? |
Rhododendron?

Bush 1 is Cleyera.
Bush 2 is a type of Holly. Hard to tell from the pics but here are a couple ideas: Have you fertilized it? Sometimes fertilizer too close and dense near the base of the shrub will do that. Around the base of the shrub: is there a build up of leaves or dirt? Are there white dots on the underside of the leaves? Scale will show up that way. Cut a branch off. Take to a locally owned garden center in a zip lock bag. Typically, at least in my area, there will be someone very knowledgeable who will be able to look at it and give an answer and a fix. Some issues can be very regional. Good luck. |

You don't use roundup to weed around those by chance?

Master gardener extension service offices are a good source for garden issues.

No signs of scale, white dots, or mealybugs. I have fertilized lately. If I can't get help from the local folks would it hurt to spray with a insect and/or disease control like Bayer 3 in 1 Insect/Disease/Mite Control???? |
