I have a Tahoe with the same color seat combo. All the side and rear hatch glass is tinted. We had a hot summer last year but if the vehicle was sitting in the sun it wasn't to bad when I first opened the door. It was cooler than I thought.
Here's a pic.

My Targa is wrapped with 3M 1080 vinyl. I wrapped it (DIY) about 8 years ago and it has held up very well. The 3M material is pretty durable. Most commercial vehicles with fancy graphics you see rolling about are now wrapped instead of painted. I think 3M's warranty is 2 years on a horizontal surface outdoors, but check with your local wrap shops. It's not hard to work with this stuff yourself.

If you want super-reflective, you can buy the stuff in chrome.

I think that a white roof and heat reflective tint is a great idea.

Just to wrap this thread up...(see what I did there?) I talked/texted with my daughter last night. She said she feels the car is fine the way it is. She can use the remote start to turn it on and cool it down prior to use and thinks this is going to be 'OK'.
I think she's tired and just needs to think about it a little longer, or, spend more hot days out there before she comes around to the idea.
In the mean time, I got ONE quote from a shop locally here in the beach area and they want @$700 all in, parts+labor. I'm sure it would last a long time (they use 3M film) and would look fine when done. I'm thinking I'd like to talk my son into helping me do the spray-on stuff. We'll just have to see how this plays out.
I appreciate all the input here as I still think it's a good idea and will continue to pursue it.
Thanks again.

Well, whatever happens, make sure to pic up one of these and let us know the results! The difference between white and dark surfaces is tremendous. When I got my little thermometer as a gift, I went around measuring the heat off different color car panels in full sun, and I think there was about 30-50 degrees difference between black and white, but I can't remember exact right off hand. Whatever it was, it was significant. Colors made a difference in the interior too.

Thanks Leaky!
I've got that covered already, just needed your input to get me in gear to find it and get it working again.

Look at fellers.com for wrap material. Doing a roof is a pretty easy DIY job.

I factory ordered a couple of dark XC40s with white roofs and they didn’t look good, in fact they looked like cop cars and were hard to sell. Still, it would be temporary for you. The tint for the glass needs to block infrared and it can be clear. Maybe there’s a sunscreen wrap that rejects heat better than white, I don’t know.

There is a reason why most cars in the Middle East are all white because it's hot, damn hot!

Doing a DIY roof wrap shouldn't be too difficult and as the Tahoe looks quite tall it might not be seen too

If it were me I'd just do it, see what it does for the inside temperature and report back as it would be quite an interesting experiment

Interesting about the ceramic tint. I'm going to look into it for my Volvo and Silverado. I found this video which is pretty good in showing how effective it's supposed to be:

So another update. Turns out the state takes 28 days to issue a birth certificate, which in turn is needed to get a passport, which the new born would need in order to fly to Japan.
My daughter says she can't/won't do another 28 days after she gives birth. While the condo in the desert was a great idea on first look, it just isn't working out well for the kids, their mom, or my wife. So they are packing up and heading to our house later today. We (my wife and I) have to convince our daughter that there's no way she is going to fly back to Japan with the three kids all on her own. She'll just have to wait till her husband can come back here to make the trip with her.
Oh, the doc said she shouldn't fly after about 10 or so more days.

6 months later......I finally got around to finding someone who could do my Volvo. If all goes well the Silverado will be next.

I have an appointment for one week from today and will post an update here afterwards.

Was quoted about $295, which sounds very reasonable to me. That based on no tint removal needed. My car only has the factory tinted windows, so should be fairly straight forward. He said it would take about 3-3.5 hours.

The way I found this person is I stopped at a local reputable collision/tow shop this morning and asked them. I also asked about a headliner person for the Volvo and got a referral for that as well, but have not called yet.

One thing at a time....but I'm excited to be getting this done!

It should be very cheap and easy to buy a roll of white vinyl wrap on Amazon and do it yourself.
And I know what I am talking about, after wrapping my whole 911 a while back.
Worst case scenario it does not work as expected and you can pull it off.

Guess I should update you all on what happened.
They survived the desert condo experience. They all flew home to Japan as a family of 6.
They have since moved to Virginia, USA and bought a house. The Suburban made the trip on the back of a trailer truck. Only took four days to get there.
They had had the windows tinted while in PS, and yes it does work well. Not sure what they used but it was noticeably cooler when they left it with us while they went back to Japan before moving back to the US.
