i know people that drink, drink a lot. i can see it in their skin, their face. yes it takes a toll on the body. does it do that to everyone, probably not.

It’s a ton of avoidable calories too. If your activity and eating habits normalize so that your weight is stable, but you have “a few a week”’ over a year that’s 2-3lbs. Doesn’t sound like much 5 years goes by like the blink of an eye and you’re wondering why you're 15lbs more and “nothing changed”.

^^^ that's one reason why gin & tonics are so great. If you get sugar free lime flavored tonic water, quarter lime wedge, you are at about 100 calories.

If you like the taste and the alcohol doesn't like you, you might want to check into the newer non-alcohol spirits (NA gin is commonly available)

Now that's something worth trying, thanks, I just found some on Amazon. Addicted to Bombay Sapphire, perfect gin.

Famous lies we tell ourselves and others:
"Just because I only go on a binge once in a while, it doesn't mean I have a problem"
"I don't drink every day so I don't have a problem"
"Even though I can't enjoy an event without alcohol, that doesn't mean I have a problem"
The biggest lies:
"I can't quit any time"
"I am able to drive home"

Ask me how I know about these lies. :(

Nothing but net here . Was never a drinker, but fell into some bad habits in my late 20's up through mid 30's. Drank heavily a few nights a week and at least one night every weekend . What a waste of a human life . Spending beautiful days hungover feeling like dogs ass .
My son was born when I was 36. I came in one night after binge drinking all night and other things, it was about 4 am. My wife was sound asleep, and when I unlocked the front door, I could faintly hear my son whimpering in his crib. I went back to his room ,picked him up and held him, then rocked him to sleep , and made myself and him a promise that I would be a good dad and father to him .
Quit smoking , drinking and drugs, just like that , never looked back . I probably have one , maybe 2 beers per year, and struggle to finish them . I am pretty boring
Once I quit all the nonsense, my life started to get better in every aspect

bears repeating.

a lot of my friends have quit because of addiction. they are solid like rocks. very dedicated in their new found lives.

I like a couple of beers each day. Usually a tasty IPA.
5 beers a week? With such a small amount, I would think it wouldn't affect your health like 14 a week.
Why bother quitting with such a small amount?

Then having to work at all hours and spending up to 21 continuous days on call made it a non-starter anyway. Call is no longer an issue but I'm on a looong roll so I too no longer think about it unless it comes up in conversation. I did recently go to a bar for a going away party and the take away was "these people are so loud and unfunny." :(

This too. Meaning, whenever I'm in a crowd of folks, all of whom have had a few or more? Well, let's just say I don't find them as clever and funny as they think they are.
A bit of shame as well...knowing there was a time I was just as stupid...

Beers repeating? Not in many years.

Back when I was in my late 20s I tried to keep up drinking Tequila with a HOT chick that weighed 95 pounds and most of that was boobs. She literally drank me under the table, and I woke up the next morning drooling into the carpet under the table. It was a horrid headache, and I don't think I have had Tequila since that night. Evidently she was a professional drinker, and my big head managed to overrule the little head and get away from her.

In my 30s War Bonnet Tech was still going strong, and Hans Metzger was the guest speaker from Porsche AG that year. I was single, and he came alone, so after the dinner he suggested we go to the bar and have a few beers. Slamming Beers with Hans was great, and I only wish I had gotten his signature on something cool. I tried to keep up drinking St. Paulie Girl beer with a German. That was a mistake. I had to stumble back down the hall to my hotel room. I don't think he had a buzz.

That may well be the last time I was drunk. I like beer, but one or two with a meal or after mowing the yard, or after a major project working on the cars is about it.

My vice is definitely NOT alcohol. I usually don't finish one beer, and that's probably once a month at most. My addiction is caffeine. I drink way too many sodas, energy drinks, and coffee than I should.

Since I own a store and my office is down a hallway from a walk in cooler, it's a problem. The new thing now is CBD drinks. I personally dislike them, but they're catching on fast. Now my dad is into them too. He has constant pain and they calm his discomfort so I give him probably a case per week of different CBD drinks.

+1

Fantasy football close out beer fest in Houston. The director of North America for my function flies down from Anchorage. Business unit leaders, commercial managers, etc attend. I'm just staff. Oh wait, senior staff after 25 years. But I won the league with Antonio Freeman's three touchdowns, a freak day for Testaverde filling in for Steve Young, Curtis Martin contributing hugely, etc. I beat the big boss in the final game.

I was not drinking. It was really painful for an hour because I like beer then they started acting like fools. Not idiotic behavior. Just typical drinking behavior with grown men without women to throttle them in.

Quitting is easy.
I quit every night.

tabs 05-27-2022 02:59 PM

Likewise I have cut back on my consumption...just a 1.75 L of Beam in the afternoon is enough.

Rolling around in sawdust and getting beer drenched by the race team @ Hussong's in Ensenada.
Ends up on social media, surprise.
My wife has me on a real short leash.

> 3 years for me. Also not an alcoholic but also had that discussion with my doctor. He is an asian guy and doesn't get drinking beer. "Just stop it!". Not looking back. Like you said, everything is better. Profound changes to my upper body - less flab, no beer tits etc.

I drink athletic brewing 'craft' beers and the Heineken 0.0, the taste is good after a while of N/A.

The best thing is the time savings of going home from the party early when people are getting incoherent. Nobody remembers any of it anyway.

I also got good at getting in there in the mix at parties, even if I am stone sober. It is still fun. And once people know you don't drink they stop bugging you.
