How much more is cedar? I'm thinking it would take paint/sealer better?

Wow. That view really highlights a couple of areas that caught my eye:
The seat filler (blue) is inspired, and really finishes and gives this a quality appearance, and the large roundover on the seat edges (in orange) really highlights the fact that you spent extra on the 5/4, and didn't cheap out with 4/4 lumber. I'm assuming that's Southern Yellow Pine? We don't see much of that up hear in the Great North Woods. It almost looks like Poplar, except maybe for the knots! I know plenty of people who would pay 250 for those. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1657669695.jpg |

Both daughters and their families are headed to the Bahamas tomorrow. Have finished their chairs (unbeknownst to them) and will deliver two here in Atlanta and two in Asheville as a surprise on their return from vacation.
They fit nicely on the FIL's power chair lift rated to carry up to 350lbs! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1658236790.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1658236790.jpg |
^ Nice work! Someone will tell you to throw a rope over the top of the top chair.

Surprise deliveries completed successfully yesterday to Alpharetta GA and Asheville NC (It was a long day!). The girls return from their Bahamas vacation tomorrow. 2nd pic chairs were made using premium grade vs std grade lumber - much fewer knots. I did end up filling all knots and splits with clear epoxy that will improve the final finish and longevity.

Delivering the first 4 chairs to the girls left us chairless so I completed 2 for us. The v2.0 chairs contain a pineapple decoration that I cut out using a jigsaw and a matching side table. Very few knots in the boards I selected. The nice grain patterns will look great when stained. Quite pleased with how they turned out.

Thanks! |
Just finished two sets of chairs for paying customers - Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law and a neighbor. The neighbor wanted a martini glass instead of a pineapple and a more modern styled back. I Googled martini glass stencil in images and liked the look of this one. I think they turned out great!

Very nice!
I prefer the other backs (I'd probably call them clam or scallop shell). I also like a nice smooth curve. But when someone requests a square back, you give them a square back! |
You've got yourself a post-retirement side hustle if you want it. You've got a good eye for proportion, and your craftsmanship seems to be way above par.. All you need to do is figure out a way to expedite and streamline the whole process from raw material selection to final paperwork.
Nice work. Really nice work. |
I want to know your source for the knot free PT lumber. I don't run into that at HD or Lowes near me!
