One of my favorites - but you really gotta watch the whole movie first:

Good bad and the ugly the mexican standoff.. nothing beats it.
scene , actors, music and ending after the shootout BLONDIEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!! Charles Bronson and the Harmonica in the end a close second.. Ennio Morricone made those movies as much as the actors in it. |
This was fun too
tho technially not a shootout but a slapout <iframe width="1280" height="720" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/IP11jDHwX98" title="My name is nobody - Terence Hill Epic Fight" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
My favorite western of the all, The Outlaw Josey Wales. It has many great shootouts. And the movie is great as well. Unlike some of those on that list.

Wild Bunch is the granddaddy of them all, best was in Heat though, no doubt.
Westerns only is tough, Wild Bunch would have to be number one Open Range is hard to beat for number two, long and seemed pretty realistic to me. I wonder how much spalling you would get, if someone shot a cast iron skillet hanging on a wall close to your head. |
honourable mention

Sicario had a bunch of gnarly shoot outs.
I thought Den of Thieves was frikken crazy. The bad guy racked his pistol on his shoe. I liked that bit. |

4 vs 100 + cops way to much spraying and yet accurate supressive fire by the perps They hardly ever reload despite shooting full auto all the time. Ever shot an M16 select fire? I have, the rate of fire is impressive. brrt brt brrt 30 mag is gone in no time.. Val Kilmer must have had an invisible 100rd Surefire on his gun Cops 100 of em not even close to delivering the same amount of return fire despite superior numbers Bit of a joke really |
The film 3:10 to Yuma (the 2007 remake) has a great running gun battle at the end. First clip is the run & gun from the hotel to the train station. Second is the shootout finale.

I just wonder why every "henchman" from Storm Troopers to trained mercenaries can fire hundreds of rounds at the good guys, and miss, bullet after bullet. He can always run just faster than they can sweep the barrel. And car doors are totally bullet proof from bad guy bullets.
Another non western shootout is the movie the original Taken. |
Stijn, it was a movie
