I'd mount the winch on the inside face of that stringer. The hinge for the door will be lower than the winch so I think there shouldn't be an issue with the angle. I'll rig up a quick simple pully and rope and validate by hand. So the idea is winch operated by remote. Lower cable, attach to handle, open it, winch holds it open, when done lower it, unhook cable, retract cable into rafter so it's not visible when not in use. ![]()

First off, I love your setup, and your way of thinking about this.
Secondly, you know you are in a forums filled with Porsche enthusiasts when you get three pages discussing how to over-engineer a complex solution to a simple problem! Carry on, and I am looking forward to your final solution, with the required video of the cover opening and closing...

I'm pretty sure the best solution is some Decepticon technology!

You could just adapt some junkyard Macan clamshell hood hinges and use gas struts to open the door. To close, you can use a pole to attach a pull rope to the bottom of the door. A simple catch will keep it closed.

Something like this small anchor winch could work for this.

Thinking about it more, I would just go with gas struts and get out the ladder to close it.
There are roll-up options with single touch remote though: https://www.rollashield.com/outdoor-tv-cabinets/ |

Since the TV is set rather high, you should also install an arm that can extend and lower via remote control. Extra points if you get the TV to spin 360's as it comes out of its 'garage'
You will also want to add hidden surround speakers (SONOS) around your sitting area that pop-up when the TV opens. Have you decided what your inaugural movie will be? I would suggest something like LeMans, Grand Prix, or Ford vs. Ferrari.

My vote is to make the inauguration a marathon of all of the above, then add Rush, and at the end, Days of Thunder, Wraith, and Corvette Summer. ![]()

Gas struts on either side to open it.
Use a dowel with a hook on it to bring it down. Manually latch it in the closed position |

But I would still want to see it rotate around just for effect.

It does spin, but the wall would have to be coved to allow that. OTOH, the box can be built in to the roof overhang structre. There is a swing-down model too.

^ Thinking about it even more, the box can be mounted to tracks so it can slide outward from the wall, allowing the drop down mount to spin around. That would be my choice, actually.

Maybe this belongs in a "Why Men Hoard Things" thread or the craigslist garage sale thread.
Sitting here googling various winch systems, bare AC motors, pulley parts and I remembered something I'd gotten from a neighbor a couple of years back. Brand new in box never used. My wife asked "what are you going to do with that?" Well maybe I now have an answer. All the parts I need are there and can be manually operated right away and later I can add a standard wall mounted hand crank or a motor and pulley if that even becomes necessary.

Won't a canoe block the TV?

Have BT Rock speaker sets for the yard already. The brand will daisy chain up to 99 individual speakers. Since it has a clear view from the jacuzzi probably be used mostly for Football and porn.
