Hypothetically, you won a BIG award (not $$)

Medal of Honor, Nobel, Olympic Gold...a big one.

What do you want done with it when you're dead?

When I'm dead..I don't give a chit.
Do whatever you want with any of my possessions.

When you mentioned “Big Award” the first thing that came to mind was a Leg Lamp. But that would be a “Major Award”.

I’d hand it down through family or loan it as a display in the proper venue.

If the family does not want it, make sure it goes to a local museum of the right type. A Medal of honor to a military museum. In the end, a dead person can't care.

Yeah, descendants can do what they want. I'd love to think that if I have stuff that's important to me, that they would be important to someone else too, but I'm smart enough to know that is not always the case.

I've got some stuff that's got value to me that is not likely to have a bit of value to my descendants.

Haven't folks pawned/sold olympic medals, oscars, and superbowl rings? Crazy, isn't it.

I don’t have any medals, but I’ve got 40 years of tools in my Matco toolbox. Maybe when my son buys a house, he could use it.

Edit: When my best friend passed away several years ago, his wife asked if I wanted all of his tools. He had pretty much a duplicate of what I had tool wise, but only had stacked toolboxes. I really couldn’t use them and I suggested she give them to a student at an automotive school. I don’t know what she did with them.

When I retire I will have a Shadow Box made of my military achievements/recognition/awards. These shadow boxes are normally 3x2 feet or so. I would hope a family member keeps it somewhere as to preserve a bit of my family history.

In 2004 I was recognized as the Field Grade Officer for the entire state of California. There was an Oscar sized statue that came with that . . . maybe I’ll see if my base’s museum would be interested in that.

Example of a military shadow box

Considering all awards are political...

Pieces of oversized fancy paper? Titles that go after your name? Publications? Who tf cares.... Some people want a legacy. To be remembered. Envied. Lifted up to something they think they deserved... Ego. Everyone puts their pants on one leg at a time. We are all equal in this world, and to think otherwise is comical.

BTW look up the story of the Nobel Peace Prize. Interesting legacy for something so destructive...

I'm into buying things. Just things. I research the subject then buy the best possible thing, then I immediately lose interest in it and it goes in the attic.

So I'd like everything sold and all the money go to the SCPA.
