996 Turbo 911 Car Battery recommendation

I tried searching the archives but didn't find a thread on battery recommendations.

Can anyone make one? The turbo is sparingly driven and I'll pick up a battery tender to go with it.

I recently grabbed a 800 CCA H7 battery from Walmart for $149 for my 996TT. Cheaper than Napa/Advance/Autozone and it's made by the same manufacturer. Mine was made two months ago.

Can’t say enough about Antigravity batteries, they are expensive but last longer, lighter, and will never leave you stranded.

Saved both the Cayman and Panamera once.

I’ve heard lots of good things about Antigravity. I have a normal old school one in my 997.

On car batteries: I can't recommend a brand in the US but IME it's best to buy the best you can afford.
(EDIT: Especially if it's your wife's car)

That doesn't mean an Oddesy or Optima. Both of these batteries may be great but they're complete overkill for most people.

4+ years is the norm for me but I don't hesitate to change them when needed.
- I also carry a small Ni-cad starter battery for emergencies that's been really handy/useful.

Antigravity has a cool feature. When and if the battery drains, it stops draining completely and leave the owner three or four cranks to get you back on the road. I looked for one to put on my 993T with my friend's discount. Its a.....780 big ones.

+1 for Antigravity. The are expensive though. I had one in my GT3 and no issues.

I use this guy- https://www.amazon.com/Battery-Tender-BTL14A300CW-Supersmart-Lithium/dp/B07JRBV3W9/ref=sr_1_6?crid=31ALKJ2WN9EEJ&keywords=battery%2Btender%2Bbattery&qid=1652361148&sprefix=battery%2Bt%2Caps%2C2225&sr=8-6&th=1 in a 911. Been very happy with it. I do keep it on a tender when the car is not in use. They have a larger 480 cca version for 60 bucks more. Granted, the antigravity is more powerful and has the reserve feature, but its 700 bucks vs 150-200 and the cheaper, lighter alternative has full bms as well.

Thanks for the responses. I had never heard of antigravity batteries, interesting concept but $700? Wow.

I've been told by several people that batteries (like everything else these days) "ain't what they used to be" when it come to longevity. I don't know how long the current battery has been in the car but I'm sure it's not being exercised enough to maintain peak operation for as long as possible.

And a battery tender is in the plans as well. I'm also looking into the small jump packs for the daily driver and long trips. I don't want to get stuck in the mountains or somewhere else with a dead battery.

I bought a factory Porsche battery to replace the Interstate that died. The reasoning is that I want to use the drain pipe and couldn't find any Interstate at the time. I also use a battery tender and carry a NOCO jump box, which is really great. I use it to jump start other people's cars all the time.

It's just a battery as long as the specs match.

Antigravity batteries are cool but the $500-$600 difference would be better spent on a markski boost leak tester, a #16 check valve and a years gym membership to lose 15-16 lbs (if you're that concerned about weight savings and have a few lbs to lose.)

I put a Optima Yellow Top Deep Cycle Battery, Group Size H7, 880 CCA, 1000 CA in mine - I like the AGM because they don't leak = the deep cycle works when I don't drive it for awhile

Antigravity RS30 battery - SUCKS

After 2 years running an RS30 Antigravity battery on my 996TT, my overall assessment is, IT SUCKS!! It now barely turns over the engine, something has degraded. Worse is that since new, I have had several incidents starting the car, when the voltage dropped low enough to kick in the battery saver mode (it Shuts OFF the battery), which can not be restarted because the hood latch no longer works. I had to set up an external emergency cable, but have grown tired of getting out to pull that cable in my driveway, the gas station, etc.. when the damn battery shuts off for no good reason. By every assessment this battery even when new, lacked cracking amps and had much less reserve than a cheap H7 lead acid battery.

At this moment I am shopping for an AGM replacement for my $500 waste of money. NEVER AGAIN.
