One of my all-time favorites, though. I've mentioned this before, but I'll mention it again.

In Ireland, the name is the Anglicised form of the Gaelic name Ó hUiginn, 'descendant of Uiginn'. Uiginn being the Gaelic version of the Old Norse víkingr or Viking.

So, yeah, maybe I have a special affinity or something.

The series, while exceedingly well done, is kind of a historical scatter diagram, or mish-mash of people who did not actually live at the same time, events that occurred over the span of hundreds of years, and not always in the places represented. Kind of a "Viking Highlights" sort of a deal compressed into three generations.

What I really liked about it was that it didn't try to romanticize the people nor their bloody exploits. There are no "heroes". They are all, for the most part, lacking any sort of redeeming qualities. You learn to hate all of them. Blood thirsty killers one and all, who will even turn on one another at the drop of a hat. Fun to watch, though.

They added a narrator in season 5 episode 10....stupid.
