71 year old mauled to death by 7 Labradoodles

Oh wait, nope
7 PIT BULL mix dogs YET AGAIN

I just don't understand why this gentle, loving breed of dog is so misunderstood and judged so harshly!

I thought about posting this when it happened, but didn’t. This seems like a good place to talk about it. Over memorial day we were down at our cabin at the lake. We were walking our golden retriever and border collie. Our cabin is in a very quiet cove with lots of families with small children. From one of the rental cabins, this pitbull comes racing up the hillside and clamps down on the leg of our border collie. The pitbull pulled her and me down the hillside. Poor Elsie was just howling in pain. The only way I got that pitbull to let go of Elsie was to find a big branch and keep beating it over the head until it was stunned. Almost 2 months later she is still limping and can’t put much weight on the leg that was injured. The sheriff was called. The pitbull was taken and euthanized. This was easily a 70 pound dog. I don’t know what I would’ve done if it turned on me.

Oh noooo, I’m so sorry to see that.

I know what I would have done and it would have been loud and rhymes with 45

A few years back an older guy was stringing up his Christmas lights and neighbor's pit bull mixes (3 or 4 as I recall) got loose, attacked and killed him in his front yard. It happened along a fairly main road on the north side of Charlotte and no one could stop it. Scary breed. When you consider how fast they can run and attack you really have no time to defend yourself. It's like getting hit by a pack of wolves. The dogs were put down, but I don't recall what happened to the owner.

I'm so glad that you and Elsie came out relatively well, and the dangerous dog was taken care of. I hate to hear about any dog having to be put down, but sometimes....
It's a shame they can't/don't do the same with the owners in that situation.

Pepper spray gel in the face sends most dogs, including pits, running the other direction howling in agony (I've had to do that at work, unfortunately). I don't go anywhere on the airport property without my big, pistol grip bottle of the stuff close at hand, since there are apartments and houses that border the property and Texans love their pit bulls.

Yeah, but a .45 in the face makes sure they won't do it again.

Our cabin is down at Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. Missouri is a constitutional carry state. And down at the lake you can conceal carry or open carry. Nobody gets worked up over seeing someone open carry down there.

My uncle used to carry when he went on bike rides, not because of being in a bad area but rather because of dogs coming after him.

Sorry to hear that Kurt.

We have a pitbull problem around here too When they attack I hoist them up by the collar, hangman's style, and let my dogs extract revenge on it. They run out of air in about three seconds and go limp. Or if they don't have a collar pull it's front leg out sideways, sideways and upwards. That way the dog will never come right and you can claim you were just trying to pull the dog away from yours.

There are no bad dogs, only bad pit bulls (and a few other breeds). Banned or controlled in over 30 countries and over 900 US city's for good reason. When a kid's face gets ripped off or someone dies a horrible death by dog it's unacceptable. Man created these monsters so we should fix our mistake, Doggiecide! That said, every pit that I knew was a wonderful dog. They just have the capability of going bonkers and the capability of doing horrendous damage. I read somewhere that a pit bull's jaw pressure is 1600 lb.s and a German Shepard's is 450

June 5, three pit bulls maul and kill 86 yo Calgary woman.

I suppose we only hear about a fraction of these events. What a brutal way to go.
