Sinusitis

I posted in the "Navage" thread about my problems with runny nose, nasal drip while sleeping and allergies. The Navage worked OK and gave me some relief but the Wife insisted I see my Doc and see what he thought. I was snorting, hacking and spitting for the first half hour every morning and she was getting annoyed.

He referred me to an ENT and the Doc is really good. They gave me a CT scan of my sinuses and besides finding out that i don't have an upper sinus cavity on my left side (15% of people don't, maybe why I've never gotten headaches)my left side was filled halfway and my right side was completely filled.

Come to find out I don't have allergies, it's sinusitis most likely caused or aggravated by my bout with COVID. He put me on a month long round of Amoxicillin (875 mg twice a day).

I went for my follow up today and it looks like it did the trick. 2 weeks into the antibiotics I was able to finally breath through my right nostril, I had never even noticed how bad it was. Now I have more stamina and less tired and no snoring!

The Doc told me today he's seeing a lot of cases of this due to COVID, more so with the later Omicron strain that was similar to a head cold as opposed to the original which affected the lungs.

Just an FYI in case anyone else has been noticing an uptick in the severity of their allergies or a sudden onset of allergy symptoms.

I called my doc because I thought I had a sinus infection. He asked me to take a Covid test which I did and it was negative. He said those things are reliable unreliable because of false negs. He prescribed Zythro for 5 days. Typically by the 2nd day on Z, I’m feeling much better but not this time so I took another Covid test. This time I’m positive so I took another, just in case. Positive again. Covid had me fooled. I sure thought it was my sinuses again.

Forget the drugs.
Does it clear up when windows on both sides are open?
Then it's environmental.

1). Test your house for mold. Could be a small water leak inside a wall.
Use a moisture meter on walls everywhere there could be a problem.
Look for consistency on inner/outer walls.

2). Pet hair allergies. Vacuum everything with new filter.

3). Run a bit of water in unused bathroom drains.
Add bleach and run a few minutes.
P-Traps dry up and then methane sewer gasses get pushed back into the house.

The old-school cure for sinus problems was a towel draped over the head over a steaming pot of hot water.
Tea or lemon juice or eucalyptus or otherwise.
