Suggestion- watch the traffic lights in Jersey

The bike rider said he had the light, which he clearly didn't. Jersey City councilwoman Amy DeGise not paying attention grazes him at full speed and keeps on going. A camera from behind her recorded her continuing on as if nothing happened. I don't think this will end well for Amy. If she had just stopped, she would have probably been okay.

As mentioned in the other thread it seems like an idiot on a bike got hit by an idiot in a car.

She clearly needs to be charged with a crime. I believe hit and run is a crime. The dude was obviously a dumas and ran the red light. In the one video he tells the reported "I was just about to look right" he was already most of the way through the intersection with a red light, WTF? He was clearly in the wrong, but it didn't look like the council woman slowed down before or after which is fubar.

I think it's fine if she doesn't resign. That way they can fire her.

Dude is a bicycle Uber Eats messenger. So, he's likely on the bike all day. He was wearing flip flops and not wearing a helmet so IDT he's a responsible rider BUT he is responsible for the accident. However, De Gise committed an indictable crime / 3rd degree felony by fleeing. She doesn't need to resign she can be removed for cause.

A criminal charge for leaving the scene of an accident in New Jersey is classified as a third degree crime, also known as an indictable offense or felony. This degree of crime is punishable by up to 5 years of imprisonment, in addition to fines and suspension of your driver’s license.

Right, that makes sense. She needs to be removed and prosecuted. No excuse for not stopping not only on legal, but also moral grounds. If you hit someone, you stop. WTF. I don't think there's ANY way she can pull "I didn't know that I hit him" crap.

And the dude on the bike is a dumass, and hopefully, got a good wake-up call about how to ride a bike. He's lucky it wasn't a lot worse.

In this Sunday's (31 July) newspaper a columnist wrote an editorial about this and nominate the dumbass bike rider for a Darwin Award.

Yep, the article was right. Cyclist is a moron, that will live to do something stupid, but hopefully, has learned a little bit about road safety on a bike and playing chicken with a car.

The chick driving the car, I'm sure panicked, but that doesn't give her a pass for not stopping.

People who do hit and runs and injure other people are ****bags. Hit and run crashes are endemic in Chicago - something like 50% of all vehicle crashes are hit-and-runs. Just a few days ago someone hit a guy crossing the street and drove away - this happens all the time.

...'As for DeGise, her car just keeps driving. That was a big mistake on her part. She was later issued two tickets for leaving the scene of an accident. She’s innocent until proven guilty. But her spokesman issued a release saying she won’t be resigning her Council seat as many are demanding.

Good for her, I say. By Hudson County standards that collision was little more than a love tap, one that Black brought on himself...'

WOW!

By the way NJ law requires all bicycles, pedal or E- to obey all traffic laws...all of them. The biker should get a ticket for running the red.

I drive through Hoboken and JCity on occasion. Many electric scooters, bikes, pedestrians and dog walkers. You need to exercise caution despite having the 'right of way'.

The biker was wrong, but she was flying. No excuse for not stopping, she should be charged (also).

Absolutely, the dude should be cited for being a dumas (pronounced DOO-mäs).

I'm not sure Alexandre would like that given this quote:

Most know they were doing something very wrong. Drunk, high or texting and want to get away, and sober up before the cops show up, and maybe get away with it.

She for sure deserves the two tickets, and I have to agree, the bike dude need a ticket for running the light, and another one for being a total idiot. I guess they can't really ticket him for idiocy, because they would be ticketing about 3/4 of the population as well.

Yeah, she should go to jail.

Worse I saw a video (I think in Chicago) where a driver purposely hit a pedestrian, then got out and robbed him, then took off…I couldn’t even fathom this, a public execution feels appropriate.

Wow...that guy is incredibly lucky to be alive. A split second sooner and he would have gone through her windshield or over the top of the car at great speed. Just amazing.

Bicyclists in the city are just amazing idiots. I'm surprised that more are not mowed down. Newscasters are also amazing idiots. How can someone not know what, "head-on," means in reference to traffic collisions?
