I could generalize you as a bitter old fool, but that would be giving you the benefit of the doubt.

Go polish your nothing special Mustang and stop generalizing Paul, you are a broken record. Great, you hate Porsches and nice watches, we get it.

That watch is horrid though.

Reality hit me a few weeks ago when watching Gordon Murray show the T33.
He said something along the lines that this will be our last model offering a normally aspirated V12 drivetrain.
Europe's regulators have said no; even for tiny production run niche makers.

The electric cars will be fast, but they will be missing something when it comes to a certain set of appeal.

Sorry but I have to disagree with this prediction.

whoa, talk about bitter.

How does he hate Porsches and nice watches?

Is it because he doesn't push glee for every Porsche and over-priced watch?

I know that I like my Porsches and watches, but this "investment" watch craze... just buy what you like, or appreciate it from afar.

911boost 09-27-2022 06:48 PM

Island, I cannot remember the last time I read him type anything nice about Porsches or not attack folks that appreciates a Rolex and comes across as bitter.

And I have two Mustangs, so by no means do I dislike them, but I am not constantly putting people down like he is….

island911 09-27-2022 07:13 PM

IDK, I re-read this thread. I'm way more curmudgeon that PWD. But both of us are WTF with these prices? That's all.

I bought my wife a gold Rolex with lots of diamonds when she retired. She had never really expressed interest in one, but I showed her a case full and she picked out that one. Although she cherishes it, she has only worn it a handful of times (much like her other really expensive jewelry that she also loves). She always feels it is a bit much and that it looks like she is showing off (and others will look at her as if she thinks she is better than they somehow).

I always sorta wanted a Rolex myself and thought that it would be a great retirement gift (gold watch) ...probably why I got her one. Having grown up very poor, like all neuvo riche, I wanted to feel (and perhaps to foolishly let others know that I had "arrived")...but when the time came, I changed my mind/vetoed her buying me one (even though the money was there). I really never wore a wristwatch much due to working around high voltage in my youth, but I had always liked how many here had treasured their father's fancy watches and cars (my poor dad had a cheapo Timex that was probably trashed when he passed and never owned a car on his life) ...but I thought I would do the same for my son. I realized that he would probably never look at it that way and would never wear it. Probably sell it on Ebay.

I wish I had bought the Rolex I like when I was younger and enjoyed it (as I might have when I had more places to go where I dressed up a bit more). We dress up pretty much just for weddings and funerals these days. Now it would sit on the dresser in the autowinder next to my wife's and collect dust.

That's a decent watch.

Rick Lee 10-09-2022 03:12 PM

I got the call for Mrs. Lee's Rolex a few months ago. Well, I got the call telling me I was finally able to put a 50% deposit on it and they would be able to order it for me. It's been four mos. now and no end in sight. Oh well, it will feel 50% cheaper when I finally go to pick it up and pay the rest of the bill.

I'm not really a watch guy but would not kick an Omega Seamaster GMT out of my house if one showed up.

"Small Potatoes" (A beautiful watch BTW)

From the video I posted above: Limited production Tiffany dial stainless steel Patek... Asking $2.7 million!

Being a true diver the Omega Seamaster probably has better quality stainless steel! (corrosion resistance)

Meh. It's still the same human condition over time. Joining and fitting into a specialized group. Learning the details. Getting and having an item to show off to the group. Interacting with others who have the same intentions and do the same. Upgrading ones own social status and pecking order with knowledge. Details matter. It reflects upon the person and their 'worth' or rather 'personal power'. It changes and eventually progresses the entire node as a whole. When someone has 'unlimited resources' aka numbers on paper, real or artificial, getting a $10-500k time device is inconsequential.

There will always be differe nt personalities in any forum.
Look into any specialty element of human behavior: cooking, cars, knitting, coding, mathematics, collecting beanie babies, any social group venue.
The race horse stays in the lead.
But pays the price in some way getting there. 'It's the journey that counts' to some. YMMV.
For myself personally some things do not enhance my sense of 'being'. Not the pool I want to dive into.

In the end, a solid gold toilet functions the same as a $200 porcelain.
