Compression or push on fittings for a oil cooler.
What’s the consensus between compression fittings and push on fittings for engines, etc. I’ve always used Aeroquip compression fittings, but I’ve seen multiple times where people use push-on/socketless fittings as well.
This will be for an oil cooler on my 330. Thoughts? |

I used them on my exige oil cooler lines. The factory crimped fittings are known to fail and i had no faith in the facrory recall.Long and not that interesting story but i scoured the internet for months before deciding to trust them. Been working fine for around 7 years i think.
I did put an oetiker pinch clamp on the outside of each fitting as a bit of insurance. |

I was thinking about an Otiker clamp as well, but read today that it actually weakens the hose and shortens the lifespan. Maybe a zip tie…
One thing that was a little bit confusing was the temperature range. I read from -40 to 300* but I think that was the ambient temperature. A little more reading said 250° for air and 150* for water. So using this for an oil cooler, might not work. I’m going to swing by a place in the morning that sells Aeroquip and makes hoses to get their thoughts. Am I reading it right? ![]()

My reasoning for the clamp was it probably does weaken the od of the hose, but i figured the failure mode would be developing a leak vs poping off in the worst case.
Its a real biach to get the barbed fittings in the hose in either case and i dont think they are coming off. |

Just looked in the garage i have a ton of the fc598 hose left over. Not sure how i got to that part number but i know i gave it many hours of consideration. You can see the clamp recommendation here as well

A million years ago, I was in the compressed gas industry. Otiker clamps were highly thought of.
A data point. |

Push on hoses and fittings are on order and I’m going to pick up the Otiker clamps.
