I don't know if I ever had it, and never have tested positive for it. Same with my wife, so I am going to say no, never had it.

fanaudical 08-11-2022 06:26 PM

Wife has had it, I have not.

LWJ 08-11-2022 06:29 PM

Don’t think I, my wife, or my teen daughter have had it. Yet.

A930Rocket 08-11-2022 07:14 PM

For grins, I took the test and tested positive a couple years ago but felt fine. No symptoms. Tested two days later and it was negative. That’s as close as I’ve come to getting it. Also, I never took a day off for work this entire time because of it.

Ms Rocket had it bad last week. She’s an ICU nurse and has been exposed to it a long time.

Edit: I’m a germaphobe and wash my hands frequently, in addition to hand sanitizer. Maybe that helps. Two shots and two boosters as well.

No WuFlu for me. My wife got it but was never that sick.

Tobra 08-12-2022 08:17 AM

Dan, you got far, far more protection from having had it than having gotten the shot. That is almost certain.

island_dude 08-12-2022 01:06 PM

Pretty much everyone in the family has gotten it, but my wife and I are still waiting for our big opportunity.

Have taken reasonable precautions and gotten shots and boosters. I have been out there on international flight during the whole mess.

Nope, and nope for my lovely wife-

She does have laryngitis for the first time - tested a couple times over a couple days to make sure twasn't CV.

Now we whisper back and forth across the room

Not yet

MAS956 08-13-2022 09:38 AM

So far no, but wife works in healthcare (also hasn't had it) so it's likely just a matter of time.

dad911 08-13-2022 04:00 PM

Cough today and flying tomorrow so I took a test. Negative. My wife and I are still dodging the bullet, and try to be careful as her 93yo father lives with us.

beatnavy 08-14-2022 07:20 AM

A couple more data points for you, Baz:

My wife, eldest daughter, and me are all in the "never head it as far as we know" category. We're not reckless in our behavior, had one vax and one booster, but we also weren't the type to mask more than it was required.

Son and youngest daughter both had it.

Steve Carlton 08-14-2022 07:51 PM

Double boosted, never had it or felt sick at all. Not super careful, either. I have a funny feeling that after decades of flu shots or luck I've got some immunity. Over 60 years old.

That is what the powers that be said, it would protect them and prevent spread of the virus. If everyone gets vaxxed, the lockdowns will end, masks work, etc. Seems reasonable to expect that if they are vaxxed, they must be safe.

Yes, I know these are things that all turned out to be lies, but at the time, the public's trust had not been violated yet. Actually it was violated already, but the cat was not yet out of the bag, and the public did not know they had been lied to about pretty much everything.

That's a bit of a simplistic take on things. By slowing the spread, social distancing and vaccines prevented overwhelming critical care capacity, so the tiny minority who get really sick the first time they gey it, get the critical care they need and fewer of them die. But that isn't great public health messaging so they dumb it down to make sure they cater for the lowest common denominator.

Regarding coughing. Sometimes it seems to be the only symptom with the BA.5 variant.

I was coughing like billy-o and thought it was from some dots of mould I cleaned off some shoes - I'm a bit allergic to mustiness and mould spores. I grudgingly agreed to a RAT test (didn't like to unnecessarily spend a couple of dollars ya know) and it turned out I was a positive.

Tobra 08-15-2022 10:38 AM

Mr Frost, 100% of the way this was handled was 180* out. Pretty much everything was done incorrectly and deceptively

If you would like to discuss it, this is perhaps not the most appropriate venue.

No offense intended, but your view of it is much more simplistic and naive than mine.

Don't want to jinx it... I am a frequent hand washer and continue to still wear masks indoors. But I was at a week-long course at Stanford a few weeks ago, and we weren't wearing masks indoors while eating. And we were in Hawaii last week. No masks most of the time, although almost always outdoors.

hcoles 08-16-2022 06:28 AM

+1 don't want to jinx.
Many around me have had it. It seems all related to travel.
I've had all the shots and boosters but now waiting for the updated next booster.
I wear a mask going to stores which is mainly Ace Hardware. :-)

Never had it. One shot of J&J May 2021, regrettably. Minor heart inflammation for 6weeks. I am not over weight, good health, don't smoke, almost 60 yrs. old.
Only wear/wore a mast when I absolutely had to.
I am in the ocean as much as possible.
Starting summer of 2020 I have used Xlear nasal spray a few times a day for at least 3 days every time I am around some kind of group-bar, restaurant, plane....
I have conducted hundreds of rapid tests on people including those who were positive.
My favorite go to soap contains tea tree oil. Use it all the time, many times a day.
Did not follow CDC guidelines. Medical professionals recommended a different strategy for all positive cases. I work in a unique environment with mostly young adults.
I have very poor opinions of the CDC.

Kraftwerk 08-16-2022 08:20 AM

It is still sloshing around the country, but knock-wood, haven't had it (that i know of)
Got my 3 shots, & will take another...in November. Shots work and who has time to be sick > ?
Hopefully it's over soon - along with this 'grand time' of where we watch politics < science. Seems they don't mix after all...
