Vintage Omega

Trying to figure out the year & model of this watch. Any clues? I don't want to open it without the proper tool. No markings on the back.

Just a guess...but looks early 1960's styling to me. (edit) Don't know how you'd go about it, but you might try to contact this guy. He has lots of watch restoration videos, seems to know Omega well.

Well, I couldn't stand it. Opened the back. Movement is a 351, 17 jewel. Looks like it's early 50's. A G6232. It was my Dads watch, currently not running. Looks like it might cost more to fix up than it's worth. 14k gold filled, not sure what that means.

Not sure about the gold fill thing either...but did you watch the video I linked? The guy paid $700 for the non running Omega, it only gold plated. Up to you whether worth repair or not, of course.

I sorta collect vintage omegas, er I have 3 of them anyways, wearing a late 60s seamaster right now. Anyways bought one from this guy and it has ran perfectly for 4-5 years. I think he has a pretty good reputation for repair and restore. I know he sometimes refinishes dials and does more invasive things, but will be more sympathetic if instructed,

Anyways my rough guess would be 300ish for a full service. Gold filled is like corinthan leather just fancy for gold plate though the thickness is more than electroplate.

A perfectly running gold filled smaller sized (sub 36mm) omega from this era is not extremely valuable $5-800ish up to you if worth the service. But I definitely would just to put it back on the road so to speak.

Wow, Constellations have gone up in value. I have a gold chrono similar to the one on his page, cleaned up by Jack Alexion, that was my Dad's. Assumed it was a $600 watch. Would sell it anyway, but man prices have moved.

Pleased you found what it is. As I looked at the photo and read pwd72s comment I was thinking it was going to be more likely from the 50's

Like aschen, I have a few vintage Omegas and like to keep an eye out for interesting items that come up. Picked up this 1967 Seamaster 166.028 the other week.

I'm currently wearing a 1971 Seamaster 166.090 'baby flightmaster'. Also, I've just sourced an original bracelet for my Constellation which I'm quite pleased about.

Personally, I really like vintage watches, particularly Omegas. They're affordable, classy without being flashy, don't draw negative attention, and are every-day-wearable.
If you're looking for a good resource on vintage Omegas try this;

Correct, and generally thicker and far more durable than EP (electroplating)

Grog - I'd say that's definitely worth spending the money to fix. Find a local independent watchmaker who knows vintage Omega and they'll do the work for a lot less than Omega would if you sent it to them. You may want to ask on the Omega forum for a reputable watchmaker in your area, or one they'd recommend sending it to.

Thanks for the reply's. There is one Omega dealer not too far away. I think I will have a chat with them, see what they think. Most likely will have them fix it up. It was my Dad's and I would love to have it working. I currently wear a garmin feninx but can wear the Omega for special occasions.

Hey thanks. It runs great, Jack Alexion in NC serviced it a couple years ago, cleaned up some flaking on the face, new “crystal” and sympathetic removal of some blemishes w/o overdoing it. It gold filled, with observatory back. Very dressy, so I don’t wear it often, but its cool to have. My Bond Seamaster gets more use. I find that I don’t wear a watch every day now around here, too much yard/ mechanical stuff going on, but I do miss having one on.

Good decision. The black face/gold hands makes for a fine dress watch. Especially these days. Your dad, or whoever bought that watch for him, had good taste.

An Omega authorized dealer may want to send it to Omega for service. There have been some horror stories associated with this where nice, original watches have been 'restored' with new hands and dials. If you go this route, be very specific that you want a service of the movement only. Have that cleaned, reassembled, and relubricated. Have the case cleaned but NOT polished as it removes crisp edges. Be very specific you don't want it polished. The crystal looks good on your watch, so you should be OK there.

Ok, now I will go to ask the Omega forum's for what they recommend. Thank you. I don't really care what it costs. It will be worth it.
