2005 Toyota Tundra
I'm thinking about picking up a 2005 Tundra, to haul parts and bike with. The problem is, , the one I am looking at has an ABS issue and the part is no longer available. Not being familiar with these, I figured I’d check with you guys.

The brakes on this generation of Tundra SUCK!
I'm sure you can get the component at car-part.com or the rock otto place... These are good trucks otherwise but the brakes are horrible.

At 300,000 that body is in great shape. If it’s the 3.4 liter engine that’s a plus. Those engines are rock solid. Timing belts every 100,000 and you are good for another 100k

It says V8 on the grill but the 4.7 is one of the best engines that Toyota ever made.
You cant go terribly wrong with this truck. I imagine some performance brake pads would help out the braking.

If it doesn’t have frame rust buy it. You can’t go wrong with one of these if the price is right. Great trucks.

I've got a gen 1 tundra (2002) Purchased new. Access cab limited. 240k+ miles. Wife's commute vehicle for about 12 years. Also our tow vehicle for race car trailer. Been decent to us.
There was a TSB on the brake calipers toward the beginning. Seems to have rotor warping issues, but I have only replaced them once.

and check the leaf springs...closely...my neighbor had the same year and one of the inner springs had cracked and went unnoticed for awhile.

I had a 2001 (same generation) and the brakes were weak and would fade when going down a steep grade or when towing. Other than that I loved the truck. |

Little stuff hurts you at that mileage: Check power steering, all hoses, radiator, vacuum lines, brakes, brake lines, etc. If it has good maintenance records that will help.
For 2K I'd buy it figuring I'll need 5k in the next year or so. I love that era of the Tundra. I have been doing a running mechanical resto on my 96 LC...kids are gone, we have three cars so it works. Figure in some down time.

I have a 2005 Tundra sitting in my garage right now, it belongs to a friend who asked me to look at a couple mechanical issues on it. The brakes need some attention but the big thing is the secondary air injection pump, which has failed and is sending codes and putting it in limp mode.
Hers only has ~140k miles and no rust, it has been in her extended family since new. In the rusty parts of the country, these are long since junked but if it's dry, they are solid trucks. ++

No chance that part would be available at a "recycler" (junk yard).

Look here, mostly a Land Cruiser site, but you never know what you might find in the classifieds.
