I use TheSamba.com for vintage VW stuff. Good folks there...very hands-on, knowledgeable, and willing to help out with problems. Members are usually quite civil to one another, and they have a very active classifieds section for parts & services too. |
I like the Garage Journal and Jalopy Journal and the H.A.M.B. I don't engage very much but I'm interested in garages and hotrods....

Another one just posted on the SI Forum...lol
"I have noticed a small issue with my car where if I downshift into second gear at a lower speed it will jerk after a few seconds of accelerating. It feels identical to when a clutch is let out too fast. It usually occurs when I am slowing down in neutral and I want to go into second gear, but I am traveling at too low of a speed for the rev match to do anything, but too high of a speed to go into 1st smoothly. Therefore, I will blip the throttle enough to where it falls into gear and then I slowly let the clutch out like normal, then I will start accelerating again and then it will just jerk one single time. I wonder if the clutch delay valve is causing this, if there is one, or if it is a fueling issue. Maybe it is something to do with me manually rev matching the car while the rev match is turned on. It does not do it every time, and now I have adjusted my driving so that I accelerate even slower than normal to give the car time to do whatever it is doing to cause the jerking, but at a lower RPM/speed. If there is an actual issue I would rather get it resolved while under warranty than having to baby the car to bandaid the issue." Wth is he doing by staying in neutral to slow down? |
CP’s answer is typical of the other car forum. An unhelpful response. Obviously, I can find switched power somewhere under the hood, but I want to make sure I’m not tapping into something sensitive i.e. the DME.
My original post has been moved from the general section to the motorsports section, because the oil cooler is a non-factory item. Now it will get fewer responses. Unfortunately, that’s typical. |
This is the only proper forum that I read. For my Saab there are a couple of good FB groups, and since a lot of people who own old 900s had to figure **** out and are happy to help other people figure that **** out, it’s a good place. I only occasionally read the Fiat Spider forums but they’re good. I’m still on the OG listserv for my Nissan Sentra SE-R that I joined in like 1995, a couple of years after I got my car, and that one is mostly just a small bunch of people who have known each other for 20 years so it’s very civilized. Either I have good judgment in cars or the cars I own tend to be owned by older people who don’t say too many silly things on forums.

Frankly, I didn't understand the question. Switched power?? I would want to know switched by what, the ignition switch, some rely, headlight switch, the back up light switch? Not asking a clear question shouldn't result in snide responses, just a request for clarification of what you are asking.
356 Registry forum you ask a question and someone responds, "Why don't you just look it up in the parts book/service manual?" The Samba - guys are very helpful. Ask a question and you usually get a helpful answer. |
On a serious note, if it was me I'd just run a wire from a known strong switched source underdash, like the cigarette lighter to underhood. That way I'm not splicing into any wiring that could affect drivability.
Splicing into an engine harness is how you get bad juju. rjp |

Don't forget their off topic forum, those guys really pile on at times |

-which is shorthand for covering the interior with "Corvette" logos, ugly chrome trim, swag, 'Merican flags, flames, and wolves. I am honestly ashamed to be associated with them. In fact, I I told the forum to GFY and asked for a permaban. Why? The douches were piling on this guy (a noob) who just bought a cheap C6, was taking it on a road trip, and was worried about theft. They basically told him he had a 'cheap car' and were ridiculing him because of the efforts he was willing to take to keep it safe. Everything from "quit being a cheapskate and go to a nice hotel" to "it's only a base C6, my so-and-so doesn't even need that kind of security" etc. etc. I jumped in - a noob with 10 posts myself, and basically let the douches (all with moderately more expensive cars, early C3s etc) to lay off- the car meant something to the owner, it may not be much, but it was HIS, and all he asked for was tips to keep it safe. F**k those old hicks in mullets and jorts with seriously ugly cars. rjp |

They also have it in for any C4 model. I can't figure that out, I actually like them. Also, if you mention girlfriend or wife they always want a pic I think it's pretty cool that former drag racer Eddie Hill is a regular poster and he posts photos from his early drag racing days |
Honda kids grew up on Gran Turismo or some other variant of the game where your goal is to buy "mods".

I am on just one other car form, Miata. A great bunch over there just like here. I am no longer interested in tech so its their general car talk or off topic type that keeps me there. When I had my S2000, I would have simple mechanical questions. I got the same BS with guys that have to tell you how big their dicks are. within a few posts, I decided it just easier to just drop off my car at the S2000 specialist and just have it fixed. Better for my BP. Too many key board worries. Why The fook can people type a simple answer? I feel these on line places are basically the same crap. Everyone is trying to out do each other sadly, both old and the young. Its feels like fooking high school over again. Thankfully, I do not have face book or any of the social media BS nor do I go to other forms.

Miata.net guys and gals are pretty cool. TheSamba folks are extremely helpful as well. Both remind me of PP 911 tech forum back in the day.

Besides Benzworld, 'm not in any other forums anymore, I've kind of given them up. I lurk in LS1 tech, Pirate 4x4, and Garagejournal....

I read the original question as a switch that went off when you opened the hood. The type you would have for a light. But I'm not the brightest light myself some times. lol
Garage Journal and Bass Boat Central have a great bunch of guys. Older crowd like here. |
