Other car forums and responses…

I’m on a another car forum and although the guys are very helpful and knowledgeable, it seems they have a chip on their shoulder for the way questions are asked.

Wanting to keep it simple, I asked if there was switched power under the hood and where it was. I get responses that there are four positions at the ignition source and which one do I want it on.

At first, I thought it was me, but I see the same type of responses to other questions. When I read posted questions, I feel like I understand the question, but others like to answer with more questions to boost their post count.

See the discussion below.

What do you think?

Discussion Starter · #1
Electrical work is not my forte, but is there switched power under the hood and where is it?

#2
What do you mean by switched? There is 12v at the jumper post R rear marked +.

#3
I assume he means switched by ignition key, though he did not state that nor which ignition switch position (there are four: 0-3].

#4
For MS43 DME, these are the switched 12v sources when key turned to on: F1, F2, F3, F4.

#5
Switched, as in when I have the engine running, I have constant power. When I pull the key out, the constant power source is turned off.

I want a switched power source, so that I can install a fan on my oil cooler.

Your question was clear and straightforward. The responses were from people who have reading comprehension issues. I don't know what to say beyond that.

Try being a member of a Honda Civic SI forum.:D

The car is too new to have problem questions...about all the questions are.."What's the best 'Tune' to buy for my car?
Or "where can I get a pipe to replace my resonator? I love the burbbles"
"I just got my SI....what are the best mods to buy?"

When I had an e46 I was a member of e46fanatics.com talk about a bunch of nit-picky little hens in a knitting circle. I got pigpiled for some comment about brakes- then I think called the entire forum a bathhouse for male teenage BMW owners, then got banned for it.

Most forums in general are overrun with kids, that's why they generally suck.

Oh, and if you all want a good laugh, go to Corvetteforums. As bad, if not worse than your average Honda tuner forum- especially the c6 section.

The Vette owner stereotype is well-deserved.

Your question was very clear.
It sounds like #2 doesn't understand the question. #3 seems like he's being needlessly pedantic. #4, I'm not sure if he's provided an answer or not, but it seems like he might have. I don't know what the F# stuff represents.

I used to be a member of the miata.net forums, and they were actually pretty good. They weren't quite as good as Pelican, but pretty close.

I have noticed Carpokes advertising lately. Took a quick look.

Not for me.

I've heard (I think from some of our members here) that the Ferrari forums are a little special too.

Here's a recent one from the SI forum....

"Getting my SI soon and my mind is all about how to upgrade the car once I got it.
Anyone has other recommend?
Shocks and struts - Daily drive but looking for comfy and performance. Thinking to get KYB or BC BR series.
Exhaust - 27won
Air intakes - Don't really like the set up current have , so PRL motorsports.
I'm looking to lower my car."

I couldn't resist...so, I answered with this.....
"I'm only 5'9" and I have no trouble getting into my SI."

masraum 08-31-2022 06:12 AM

LOL! "I've got to upgrade before I've even driven it!"
I understand the desire, but why don't you give it a shot in stock form first.

I have used other forums. It is weird coming from Pelican to a different site and seeing profanity thrown about as almost every other word. Like a kid that just discovered profanity.

El Camino Central was pretty civilized, and since the last El Camino built was in 1987 there are not many "kids" with new cars involved.

Mine was The Jalopy Journal / H.A.M.B. a few years back. I had joined and posted a technical / procedural issue that I was on the fence with. Immediately was 'flamed' for not first properly 'introducing' myself as though we all were at some cotillion ball in formal wear.

I left and deleted my account, never went back........................

I find the idea of introducing yourself with with a short stature and wearing clown shoes really breaks the ice and gets your foot in the door.

just use a meter like a normal person to find switched 12volt.

until your running serious amps, you'll be fine.

when i set up my lights, i computed i needed 36 amps, so i pulled it right off the alternator.

i dont get attacking people you are trying to get help from. like figure it out yourself if you dont like "the kids"

Snide answer. WTF is the purpose of forums? Should everyone have to start from square one even if there is institutional knowledge?
