Rings of Power anyone ?

I'll go, I'm disappointed so far...
Clearly there is production $$$, it's very pretty, looks high end - not cheap CGI.
The first episode though, all over, slow, and not in love with the characters...
I thought elves were beautiful - Galadriel meh, and her best friend is like a pointy eared Willem Dafoe. I'll watch more because there's really nothing else on TV right now but so far "meh". Kinda same with The House of Dragons - which looks a bit cheaper.

I haven't seen it, and probably won't. It seems like most of the newer series that Amazon and Netflix bring out are not for me. Maybe they are for younger people.

I do like "The Witcher."

I am about to watch in in a few minutes. Never been a huge Tolkien fanboy. Moderate expectations here.

Update: fell asleep. Not really a criticism as I did a big hike and was pretty tired. The hike was awesome!

Looks like all the negative reviews have been deleted or turned off.

Not going to bother. While it’s set in a middle Earth and uses several known characters, I understand that the Amazon people wrote the stories, not Tolkien. I enjoyed the Peter Jackson LOTR movies, but the Hobbit movies got stupid exactly where non-Tolkien script writers leaned in.
Tolkien’s masterpieces can be accessed whenever I pick up one of his books, thank you very much.

I just watched it. Pretty neat computer graphics. Boring strange episode. It better get better soon, or I will bail on the series.

I'm enough of a nerd that I re-read the lord of the rings and the silly-marillion as an adult, and was pretty disappointed by the 3 movies.

My opinion is that stuff that is supposed to be over the top awesome shouldn't be shown in a movie, for example the first half of jaws where you see no shark? In lotr the balrog is described as 'a shadow wreathed in flame', not some big giant stacked devil thing. It could and should have been a million times scarier.

So anyway, after the deluge of negative press I was expecting the wurst.

Watched the opening 10 minutes last night and was pleasantly surprised. I'm not condemning it yet. I guess I've got a billion dollars of episodes left to piss me off.

Have watched two episodes. I will have to think of a better description but it's too delightful. It doesn't seem serious and is creeping toward the edges on parody. The writing is poor. Expected a lot better.

Like a lot of shows they’re relying on CG SPFX in lieu of a script.

Episode 1 was a bit slow, but Episode 2 was really good !
Much better than House of Dragons imo.

I'm a big Tolkien fan, and have read the books only Eru knows how many times... So I'm not going to watch Amazon's rings of power series.. I will never get my blood pressure down again!

There's a lot of that going on these days. While I do love nice/cool FX, I do like a good story, script, character development, etc....

Best comment I've seen so far:
"I liked the bit where Galadriel said “I’m gonna fight Sauron alone! and then went home instead. And then she said “I’m never going to give up fighting Sauron!” but then decided to go on holiday. But just before she got on holiday she decided to drown herself instead because her brother said something sad to her when she was a child."

I have watched the first 2 episodes and so far, I am unimpressed. +1 on Shaun’s comments.

Will watch E3 and decide if it is worth continuing.

Good to hear it's not just me, I thought I was getting jaded. This has been as disappointing as "the old man" has been surprisingly good.

Thinking about this while sanding today, the only good scene in the two episodes, and really the only good character, is Princess Disa, Durin's wife. Elrond and Durin do everything possible to ruin the scene with incredible wooden and over-acting (respectively) but she's good enough to almost save it.

Galadrial and the guy at sea. Horrible.

Here's what I don't understand about movies with huge ambitions and matching budgets like this one. At some point early on, doesn't someone review the work done and say, "this is just not good."

Millions of folks eat at McDs and other fast food places. I suspect hundreds of thousands eat at places like Chilis and Applebees (if not millions). That's a lot of folks thinking that the food is good (or good enough). I'm guessing that you don't eat at either much. I suspect you compare to the average entertainment watcher about the same. You're assuming that your tastes mimic the avg Joe. I suspect they'll get plenty of folks to watch this stuff.
