Add video doorbell to existing doorbell circuit

I'm good enough with circuits etc... to blow breakers and fuses with the best..

I want to add a video doorbell (Wyze) to the existing circuit... and keep the existing chime functionality...

Typical doorbell circuit..

Wyze wiring instructions...

If I just wire it to the + and - at the switch.. if someone uses the existing doorbell, the video doorbell will temporarily lose power..

Again, I'm good at blowing fuses and letting the smoke out of circuits..

Electricity is not my friend but without a door chime, what makes the doorbell go dingdong? Also, that’s a low voltage system, so what kind of fuse would you use?

I'm pretty sure you need to add wyze chime kit, use their chime not the old one.

I also believe the Ring video doorbell can work with old style chimes.

A lot of it depends on the actual chime, I had to replace mine.

I wired mine to the existing transformer and had to install a resistor across the terminals to keep the mechanical chime from buzzing. No problems since and the bell works normally.

Send a message via AIM to Gogar
ecobee doorbell will also allow you to use your existing chime,

You could "MAYBE" use the ecobee 'chime adapter' with your wyze and it would be fine. maybe not.

The old doorbell button completes the circuit and sends the power to the bell.

New doorbell cameras are just using that low voltage AC power to run their camera and wifi stuff and the circuit is always on in theory so if you loop your chime in there your old chime will stay pinned on "DING" of the ding-dong.

According to their diagram you are cutting out the old chime altogether so it won't have any affect at all on your new camera. I believe you should follow other's suggestions and find what you need to have a camera and chime all in one.
