Toilet Lids

Why do people not close them?

Seriously.

Is it a regional thing?

Back east people come for a visit, use your bathroom and close the lid.

Here in TX it seems the majority of the natives always leave it up.

Men and woman.

Obviously because it keeps happening the answer is yes but is this really acceptable behaviour?

Why?

If you use the bathroom in someones home and the lid is down why not return it to the same condition?

I don’t get it.

It takes me a long time to do a #2. By the time I’m done, I’ve forgotten if I found the lid up or down.

^That's^ really the key. Regardless of what you do at home or in a public restroom, if you go to someone else's place, leave things as you found them.

Lit up for us here in the west coast. I think it disgusting having to life the lid just to pee with your finger since its not my toilet especially in restaurants. Who puts the lid down when done in restaurants?

Eat more (a lot more) roughage.

I always use my foot.

I prefer lid up. When I enter and the lid is down, I get a phobia about a nasty reveal of a floater or that the last person clogged the toilet and walking in as an innocent man, I'm the one who will get blamed.

You still gotta to walk into your car or house with that shoe. :D

Being a germaphobe, I use the side of my foot to open and close it. Or a wad of toilet paper.

cgarr 09-20-2022 05:21 AM

I usually don't have time to raise the lid, its been close to often!

As a guest, I try to leave the bathroom in the exact same condition as I found it. Most of the time it is lid open, seat down. Some houses have a guest bathroom that is all fancied up.

One thing for sure, never ever under any circumstances use the fancy guest towels, even if you are a guest. The fancy towels are for decorations only and just to look at. Your wife will not approve you using the guest towels. I don't understand the concept of a towel just to look at, it is just a woman thing, like 10 pillows on the couch so there is no room to sit down, and 30 pillows on a bed.

Single guy here.... both lids stayed up until my poopie discovered her a new water bowl a few years ago. Get over it ladies :D

LWJ 09-20-2022 07:10 AM

Wife trained me. Always leave it down.

Special benefit - nothing can fall in by mistake if lid is closed.

I did learn to compromise with girlfriends by leaving the seat down... does that count?

I've never pee'd (standing) with the seat down either.... I look and still don't understand why wimmins can't do the same and fall in :D.

Meh... the lids are down tho' .... dawgy trained me :)

I can understand the germophobe factor, I use my foot in public.

But this is inside a home that is obviously clean and the weird thing is they will put the seat down but not the lid which pretty much negates the germ excuse.

I just find it unsightly as hell.

We also have cats and if you have cats you know they are intrigued by running water and toilets hold a special fascination for them.

Problem is they sit on the rim and stick their heads in, if they slip in it's head first and they can't get out and drown.

In the last house we had a sign in the bathroom about it, might be time for a new sign.

Cats drown in toilets? Our 2 cats would bounce off the ceiling they would be out of there so fast if they fell in. Maybe I'll start to leave the seat up and see what happens. :D
Seat down at home so the wife doesn't freak on me and the way I found it when visiting.
A friend of mine is so cheap he doesn't even flush. I flush first at his house and leave my golden stream for him. :D

Our 13 year old cats have never approached a sink or toilet. However, they love lapping water from any puddle they find outside. Generalizations are futile.

This is one of those "vive la difference" situations. However, I do agree with leaving things as you found them when visiting someone's home.

The thing that perplexes me is guys who drop pants and underwear down to their ankles to use a urinal. WTH??

I've had 20 some odd cats in my lifetime and their running water fixation is not a generalization.

Cats have poor close eyesight, they can't focus on anything closer than about a foot and they can't see anything under their noses.

They literally can not see clean standing water in their dish which is why you see them tap it when they go to drink.

Moving water gets their attention hence their interest in faucets and toilets.

If you have cats do them a favor and get a watering fountain.

They'll hydrate more and stay healthier.

What do you recommend?

Seriously.

I am in favor of toilet lids, btw.
