I first learned Morse Code in Boy Scouts. All these years later, I still could send a message.
(I also hate texting)

We also learned 'flag signaling'....forgot most of that.

Dad's brother was a Radioman during WWII.

He showed me how fast he could do Morse Code one time when I was a kid. I thought his finger was going to catch on fire.

My dad spent the war in South Dakota teaching Morse to b 24 radio operators. After VE day, he went to Long Island to com with all of the planes ferried home across the Atlantic. He kept his paddle, tried to teach me but I had no aptitude.

At age 12 while in Scouts, I was good enough at Morse and semaphore to earn my signalers badge. Strangely I haven't used the skills in the last 56 years. Texting is OK, but I've heard there is a device called the telephone you can talk into and the other person can hear you and respond.

Had to learn morse to get my ham radio license as a kid.
I maybe remember sos.
I am amazed at how fast the skilled operators were. I would listen to their stream, but could not translate any of it.

We hired an "IT guy" millennial to move our web page, and set us up with our own domain and email and one drive. I might have muddled my way through in a few months, but he did it in very short order. He did not want to talk on the phone much, just texting.

I would text him a complex question and a paragraph of text would appear in seconds. Another question, and another paragraph. It honestly blew me away how fast that man could text. Even a voice to text would not be that fast as he had full punctuation, and proper capitalization and syntax.

I would bet big bucks he would make the Morse code guy above look slow. I have no idea how he can type that fast, much less text it.

He was worth the expense of getting total control of our web domain and email.

you swipe your finger to draw words... One does not even have to be a accurate with the spelling as it autocorrects. which I'm guilty of doing here.

Swype is a very fast mobile keyboard. You don't have to poke each letter, you swype your finger over the letters in the word in order. It's really slick. I've been using it for years. But if he was on a Mac and had an iPhone, then his texts probably also went to his PC so he could type via his keyboard to respond. If he is an IT guy, then there's a very good chance that he's a reasonably fast typist. It would not be weird for him to type 60-80+ wpm.

After driving a QWERTY for a few decades and with a somewhat photographic memory for long strings of jibberish and tuping without looking (that had to be 100% accurate), I was prerty adept "back when", but alas...

I have lost that skill...

Can y'all teel ?

I could send Morse but receiving was always hard for me due to the speed of some senders.
