1991 Nissan Figaro - weird

I ran into one of these on Sun. I'm guessing someone's got one here on a collector car import. I can't imagine that these are fully crash tested, etc....

It was really cute. I could see it as a city car.

What a weird little car. Only made in 1991. 20k made. 987cc, 810kg, 3spd auto, 4cyl turbo making 75hp. 2+2.

Huge cult following on these, and the recent sale prices on decent examples is fairly high!

They came in 4 colors, each representing one of the four seasons.

They're certainly kind of cool in person.

I thought it was pretty cool. I probably wouldn't have one, but it's cool.

Nissan has done some cool things along the way, Figaro included. It was the car featured in Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, season 11, episode 10. I don't see a link to it, but you could watch it on Netflix.

I totally dig the Figaro. It's always a treat to see one at a Cars and Coffee gathering. I would totally be willing to drive one as a city car.

I've only seen one parked on a London street around 2005.

It's a head turner like the Renault Alpine I saw in Amsterdam in 1985. However, first and only time seeing either in person.

With those 2 pictures the interior looks pretty modern.

I tihnk that depends upon the city. Houston has public transport and cyclists, but they aren't as popular as some places. The weather does not cooperate for cycling. Then there's the size and traffic that isn't conducive to cycling. And a lot of folks don't want to do public transport. So driving is a thing. But, you don't necessarily need/want (well, here a lot do) to drive a 3/4ton, 1ton, dually, Suburban, etc.... for every trip.

In Texas, the question is "What kind of truck do you drive?"

The Figaro would be scary small on Beltway 8 at 5:00PM. If retired and living in "The Bubble" in Dallas, not so bad.

The Figaro's been on my radar for quite a while now and I'd love to have one. Unfortunately, it's problematic and very expensive to register them here in CA due to special state requirements for safety and emissions.

The Figaro is known as one of the four 'Pike' vehicles that were designed and built by Nissan in the late 1980s and early '90s exclusively for the Japanese domestic market. Initial demand was so strong that they had to be sold thru a lottery. The name 'Pike' refers to the factory that produced them. In addition to the Figaro, there was the Pao, the Be-1, and the S-Cargo. They all looked like they jumped right off the pages of a comic book.

It's minimalist with a splash of modern but not sure what era modern. Pretty tasteful.

There's one that runs around my part of town. Looks like a toy. Don't know how they skirted all the DOT mandated bumpers and other safety items.

They didn't. Folks just waited until the 25 year rule took effect and imported them legally.

I disagree with your opinion because public transport that isn't a car doesn't take you from door to door and bikes don't keep the rain off, so in my view a car like this can have a use.

Many years ago, I had 2-3 late 70s/ early 80s Dodge Omni/Plymouth Horizons which were little hatchbacks with 1.7L VW engine/tranny (pre-Chrysler 2.2) with ~70-80hp. Per the internet they weighed 900+kg. So this thing is similar, but 100kg lighter. It should be reasonably zippy for around town.

A lady around here has one. she loves it. She wanted something old world/retro but without the unreliability of an old car.
