What Do You Folks Think of This 997?

https://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/cto/d/gilbert-porsche-911/7366609644.html

Just browsing CL and found this. Really don't know much about the 997 and I might be getting back into a flat 6 in a couple years.

For starters, I find this statement from the ad misleading.

"Non serviceable IMS bearing due to larger better bearing."

The reason the bearing is non-serviceable is because the case must be split in order to access it. Will it have problems? Probably not, but ...

Yeah, that's a bit misleading. "not easily serviceable" or "ridiculously expensive to service/replace compared to others" might be better statements.

I know my '08 BS would require the case to be split.

It's an '05 S with the Sport Chrono which is nice. Otherwise, that ad is surprisingly short on detail/info.

I don't think what he said about the IMS is intentionally misleading. The word serviceable is not even the right word for the message he is trying to convey, but I understand what he's implying.

That's a good looking car, I do not know if the price is fair though.

Wow it really is a sellers’ market. 997.1s are supposed to be sub-40k… and I’ve seen a few of those. But lately people are pricing them higher. I don’t know if they actually get their asking prices. But for that money, I could’ve gotten a 997.2 S with the same mileage. I just couldn’t make the travel arrangements work…

Price seems really high. This time last year that car would have been 35k tops. Car looks pretty decent otherwise.

I hadn't noticed the price. Wow, yeah, that seems high. I would think for that it would have to have crazy low miles or some impressive mods or something.

Considering the recent sale price on the 997.1 (2009) from HI on BaT the price is maybe about right. +/-10k. Depends on an inspection for other potential issues and a review of service history. The IMS should be fine but not for sure fine. A check of a CarFax might be warranted to see if the mileage is legit.

I think 2005 was the LAST year of the serviceable IMS, for 2006-2008 they need to crack the case. Then, of course "fixed" in 2009, also intro of new PDK, no?

I was going to buy this, I just couldn't make the right travel arrangements: https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?listingId=599380120

$50K, under 60K miles, Carfax shows minor accident with repair receipts. I sure wish I was close enough to drive down.

Yeah, I figured it was priced a bit high.

The ad was posted 2 weeks ago and it's been edited. Initially, there was a few more lines of info.
Plus, it stated the car could not be shown until Aug 27th.

Seems like the seller may be trying to generate more interest that it would normally get.

It looks fairly decent though, but not 51k decent.

I think I understand this.

I’m just exploring the model. The price is not as important right now because I want to learn about the car.

Later, after I learn about the model, then I’ll factor numbers, yo.

Ima close?

When I was looking I liked the 997.2 better so that is what I got.

The .1’s are lighter but down a little on power. The DME reports for the non turbo versions are always a big deal because they show the over revs, so if you get serious on one I would ask to see it,

Your welcome.

I know it’s the case in the GT3 world, I am guessing it’s the same for the other 997’s.

For me the styling, size and analog feel of this generation is just a sweet spot. The interior got a lot better in the later 996’s and with the exception of the carbon cup holder, the interior in my 2010 has held up well.

Don, Rennlist has some very good 997 forums - one for NA and another for Turbos. Lots of info over there, with various opinions on IMS, Bore Scoring, etc for the 997 models.

Awesome. Been surfing there this week.

This one is really cool. I really like the direction he took it.

My uneducated, but with some newly acquired knowledge thinks it's about 5-10k high. Am I close?
