Smitten, not roof girl related.

So this little girl followed us home last Friday.

After searching for about a year we finally have my new hunting partner. As we look forward to our daughter going to college in another year I decided I would have some time to start training a dog that will be ready to hunt fall 2023.

This is Bella, a Pudelpointer, and she is about as sweet as they come, however, she has shown a feistiness that tells me I’ll have my hands full. We are over the moon excited to have as part of our family.

Bella is adorable, and from the one pic, it looks like your daughter is a lovely girl as well. Congrats on the great family!

Beautiful dog.

When things are in the toilet (lots of days) my dogs always brighten up the day.

One thing I never knew about pups: Run them ragged!

Stick them in water or with a pack if possible,

A tired dog is a happy and good dog.

Never heard of a Pudelpointer until today. Were you specifically looking for one? Looks like a hoot!

If she proves to be too much for you, I bet I could talk my wife into letting us adopt her.

Long answer at how we arrived at this breed.

Being the only child my daughter filled the son role in amazing fashion. Hikes, rafts, long walking hunts deer blinds, you name it. She always wanted to duck hunt (pretty sure for the waders for some odd reason) but I never took her, mainly because duck hunting for me as a kid was miserable mainly because of the places we had to hunt were more work than fun with the heat, mosquitoes, and alligators. Finally took her to a friends place that was pretty easy hunting and he had his wire-haired griffon pointer along with another members aging lab. My daughter had only been exposed to city lap dogs at our house and a lab mix of some sort named Chloe that my wife and her surprise adopted years ago. Chloe was beautiful, big head, broad chest, amazing looking dog but someone had treated her very bad before we rescued her, she ended up being a great pet but man she had issues and she was never going to hunt, glad we saved her and had her as family but she was essentially a hundred pound lap dog. The girls knew that I was eventually going to have another hunting dog. After the duck hunt last year started I talking to my friend about his dog because she was great and my daughter could not stop talking about how cool it was to see a retriever work. Anyway, friend told me about NAVHDA, a group committed to versatile hunting dogs, good for both upland and waterfowl hunting. I fell in love with the pudelpointer once I went to a field trial spring of last year. Downhill after that, found a breeder and started the long wait.

Looks like you made a great choice. I think Pudel is what the Germans call a Poodle. I've got a black standard female, and she's really cool. They were supposedly developed as water fowl hunting dogs, although I can't say I've seen them used as such these days. Pudel, like in puddle, refers to their water nature. It seems like the Poodle is the cross of choice with so many xxxdoodles, it's nice to see a cross designed for hunting, and successful at it.

Nice dog! I have Deutsch Drahthaars - which were partially derived from the PP. A versatile breed is so much more than a one trick pony lab or pointer. Mine outdo the labs in the marshes I duck hunt, both in search and retrieve. I hope you will train and test with NAHVDA, there is a lot to learn from the people in the club for both dog and handler!
