Impending tsunami of evictions
It may not be possible for some to discuss this maturely, but why not try.
There has been a moratorium evictions here, and in much of the country for a long time The moratorium has been extended a few times, but is set to expire before too long. What will happen to those people and those homes? I can't imagine it ends well, and suspect a bit of domestic unrest will occur. What do y'all think? |

I think the smart landlord would talk to their tenants, assess where they are jobwise and try to come to a mutually beneficial agreement if they had been decent renters. It doesn't benefit anyone to toss them on the street. Unless they are trash, won't continue servicing the monthly obligation, then they need to go.

Some landlords will have been talking to their tenants all along, letting them know things are going to change and making arrangements for their future as tenants. Those would be the smart ones.

My tenants lost their jobs. They are long term and really great in the past. They received the enhanced UE and never missed a payment. BUT, when my property manager told me what had happened, we dropped the rent 25%. We worked through it. When they got back to work, they contacted me and we extended the lesser rent to work the best for both of us. Yeah, it was scary for everyone. Now they are looking to purchase a place (they have been a dream renter for over 8 years). Good tenants are priceless.

There has to be a big difference between guys here who own a rental or a few rentals and those massive apt complexes where hundreds of low income folks live. I work in the latter demographic and I know a lot of those folks are still barely able to afford their cigarettes and booze while riding the eviction moratorium out.

The Oregon legislature extended the moratorium...maybe California will follow?

Turn it all into Section 8...can't have 100's of thousands if not millions of new homeless roaming the street..stealing, looting, rioting..killing..
Lots will band together to come up with the rent for a single rental unit..maybe have 10 people or more living in a small apt. Hey folks this is the new Third World America we are living in..

If there are that many evictions waiting to happen, nothing will happen. Until the shootin’ starts.
There isn’t enough LE to handle the routine murders, rapes, assaults and other malfeasance we already have. Whose gonna kick millions, literally millions, out of their homes other than Smith? Wesson, perhaps? Or Colt? If the landlords get pushy, the tenants will simply push back. Tenants matter. |

I aint gonna to see my 30k that's owed. He has a job, and know that we can throw their asses out no matter. He works for a friend of mine in the air cool business. When they don't want to talk, that's the problem. What's not to like, live for free for a couple years and save 30k. There's a brand new Prius on their driveway. So much for helping the needy.

Our courts will be backed up like our traffic jams. No one aint goin' no where for 6-9 months and yet, no payment because of eviction.

The thing I found early on as being the most strange during these very strange times, was how everybody was so passive when the government took over.
Not a shot fired yet, here we are: serfs. What has happened is a huge percentage of the population suddenly, and willingly, became totally dependent on a check from the government practically overnight. When the government decides to stop paying people, or when the currency it uses becomes worthless, which ever comes first, the nation will find itself under a new ‘emergency’. |

Was the moratorium need based? From what I can gather it really wasn't. Those who took advantage of the situation should be fined.

Unfortunately, there will be a few folks tossed into the street at some point, but will deserve most of the blame for their own misfortune. If they haven't made a valiant effort to communicate to the landlord, and follow the rules while "unemployed", they can't be helped.
Where I live there are big signing bonuses for new hires (no experience), and also for a current employee recommends a new hire....no reason to not have a job, unless you aren't looking ! |
