Hey retired guys, do you still schedule your day?

I retired last December at 58 and loving not working anymore. I mostly exercise, wrench on my cars and do stuff around the house (honey do). Sometimes I get a lot done, most times I get distracted and not get much accomplished at all. I think I miss having a structured day, as weird as that sounds. Do you still live off a schedule like when you were working? I might have to resort to that again. I wonder how long that will last.

structured? Nope.

But I'll warn you....later on, it becomes semi structured with medical appointments. Oh, the joy of waiting rooms...

No

I try to do one thing a day.

Sometimes that's just getting out of bed ;)

Flat Six 10-06-2022 04:12 PM

Just tee times . . . .

when I 1st retired it was a difficult time. Trying to get my house ready to sell, wondering if I had done the right thing going out early at 52.5 with a somewhat reduced pension, and would get what I needed for my home sale. Had already decided I was going to where I am so I had started to move my stuff up here a truckload at time while looking at homes.

Was completely stressed out, lost a bunch of weight, not sleeping, no longer enjoyed a couple bong hits before dinner because it'd lead to panic attacks which I'd never, ever experienced previously.

Fast forward 4 years, I'm fat again, sleep till 830, and make a list of stuff I'd like to get accomplished from week to week. If I get a 3/5 done it's been a good week. All I schedule is my 2PM nap.

it'll come to ya.

"Schedule" kind of, I think of it as more a routine. There is always something that needs do be done around the house, I squeeze it in around exercise wrenching on my cars and pursuing my other interest

If you want to be a functioning adult, you need to deal with the **** that comes with

If you were smart enough to squirrel away a **** load of money, or inherited a bunch, you can kick back and just float along - no worries.....
But if you still need to be a functioning, productive adult to support your family, or your car habit, you need to get and keep your **** organized, this kind of requires you to get your **** together and deal with insurance, medical appointments, investments management, home and auto maintenance, whether you do it yourself or hire it done,
So, yah, you need to make a daily shedule to make it happen.

Or, you can just camp on the couch.

No...but I'll put it on my schedule to start one.

When I was still working I only had the weekends to get chores done around the house. Busy all day. Now, if I don’t feel like it I’ll do it tomorrow. Took a while to not feel guilty about it but yes, it comes to you.

what's with all the potty mouth?

there is somewhere in the middle happy medium you don't seem to acknowledge in your above post. I know Chris a little bit in real life and he is not going to be sitting on the couch all day. i reckon if he retired he had a handle on the productive member of his family & community plan in place.

what's with all the potty mouth & negativity? you the guy giving all threads 1 star?

Not retired but when I am the tides will still change every 6 1/2 hours or so so yeah, I'll have some sort of schedule some of the time :)

flatbutt 10-06-2022 07:45 PM

I eat when I'm hungry and I sleep when I'm tired....unless the grandkids need watching over.

If I can convince my wife to do some overlanding, we’ll head out that way. Maybe we’ll hit Sequoia Nat’l Forest early next year in the van.

I think Cliff is kayak fishing all the time.

Some days have more structure than others. I do have weekly duties and mostly choose how and when to handle these but some days are simply spent reading, playing music, or tinkering with machines or electronics. I don't really miss the highly structured work day at all. It was a means to an end and I closed that chapter two years ago. Some of my friends have gone stir crazy and need to take a job to stay sane but I don't feel that way at all.

These days my vehicles are all in good form, my musical reach is expanding, I read a lot of science and emerging technology, bills are paid, I spend a lot of time with family nearby, and my lawn has never looked better. A new chapter.

Dog goes to the park everyday between 1530 and 1630. That is my schedule.
