Fall tree colors
Show any colors in your area.
These are a couple of trees next to my drive. They are just getting a good start here. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1665768876.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1665768953.jpg |
Ours are still green. The leaves are not turning. Which is odd, because the trees should be bare by the beginning of October.

The hard maple trees provide the best color around here. The stressed ones are first...or the ones in very wet areas.

I love the fall colors but I hate the barren emptiness all winter. Live oaks only lose their leaves as the new ones are coming out. Hilton Head has a gazillion trees and many stay green all year. That’s one of the things that attracted me to this island (even without the beautiful colors).

That's what snow is for...it fills that barren emptiness. :D The oaks here do the same. |

I remember when I lived in Japan where we had plenty of snow in the winter. I remember deciduous forests being beautiful. Snow covered parts of the trees, and the parts that weren't covered because they were wet would usually be very dark. There were also evergreen conifers. I don't have a photo of one particular spot that I used to find really beautiful, but this is a similar look. https://i.pinimg.com/originals/60/5b...8db159f636.jpg |

I took this today along the Linville River above the falls. The colors are peak today along the Blue Ridge Pkwy in NC around 3000 -4000 feet elevation, the first time we ever actually saw the peak. It was spectacular. Above 4000' the trees are already mostly bare. |
They are saying our colors are not 'peak' for a while, but I like it now when there is still a lot of green mixed in with the yellows and reds.
|
Some beautiful pics there gents. Here the oaks, pines, & firs look the same. My Mesquites should drop leaves in a month or so, but we don't have (hardly) any trees that change leaf color.

According to the local news, it's peaking along the Blue Ridge Pky. this weekend, and the colors start in the mtns and move east... just starting here. I have one big Tulip Poplar in my backyard.... Always earlier to change and drop the leaves. Cleared the area with my blower yeaterday and sat back enjoying the weather.... In the midst of a leaf blizzard.... Mama Nature wuz laughing at me :).
Maples (several varieties), Dogwoods, Oaks (Red, White, Willow), Poplars, Hickorys.... we've got 'em all around here. They all turn colorful & drop, but not at the same time in the fall except the White Oaks, which keep most leaves until spring. |
The trees are just started to show a tiny bit of color now. It will be another week or two. for much color to show.

Meanwhile, back in Gulf Coast Texas, things are still varying shades of green.

Today was an amazing day for a hike in the White Mountains in NH. Phenomenal day, can't believe I made it up the mountain and then up two peaks before coming down. Completely exhilarating and exhaustifying. What an amazing day! Just a few of a million pics. Scrabbling up and down solid rock the size of a cubic football field was really something else.

^^^ Nice pics!
Is that Mt. Washington? |
Thanks, taking pics really slows you down, which in the end is a good thing, makes you appreciate everything the mountain has to offer. Life is way too fast these days.
It's the Welch-Dickey Loop Trail God it was just amazing! |
