The work begins...

65 degrees and it's supposed to rain this pm and tomorrow.
It's fun on days like this.

Looks really great.

The weather here has been really great. We're in the mid '70s and the nights are actually chilly.

But alas, I go to Waukesha Wi on Sunday for a week ( work stuff ). I'll have to wear a jacket.

^^^ You might be timing that trip just right. Our forecast is for mid to upper 60's all next week.
I would think the weather there should be close to the same as ours.

I have mowed a section of our yard that is near our pond for 4 days in a row to chop up the leaves to avoid having them in the pond. I just mow around the perimeter chopping the leaves towards center until they are all shredded to bits. I never bag them or rake them.

My lawn is about 1.25 acres and there are quite a few mature trees. It I don't keep them picked up...the grass will die.
The trees are just starting to drop the leaves and I was pushing leaves with the deck on some of the thickest spots. I have to empty the trac-vac trailer twice for each cleaning.

The hardest part is getting the shredded/chopped leaves out of the trailer....the blower packs them in like a hay baler.

The leaves have just begun to turn and fall here. I mulch a bunch back into the soil, but when they really start falling, just way too many, and ya gotta remove them or they will kill the grass. Then it's time to break out the blowers .... and the Cyclone Rake for one property.

At least I don't have to clear black walnuts and snow too .

^^^ This year has been great as far as walnuts go. The tree that normally has 20 or more wheelbarrows of nuts....had 4 single nuts that I found. Only happens once every 5 or 6 years....but I'll take it.

I'm sure next year will be back to a full crop.

The tree huggers here are telling people not to rake the leaves until the spring as bugs live in there for the winter.

I can't imagine the wet mess and dead grass you would have to deal with if you did that.

^^^ The three properties I deal with have a bunch and are also adjacent to acres of woods....

The tree huggers can bite me.... just like the bugs do .

I let the bugs fend for themselves. If they get chopped up by the mower, it was meant to be.

In the above pics...I had them all vac'd up last night it rained and the wind picked up.
Today, there are just as many again on the ground...Maple and Tulip Poplar trees.

The pile of shredded leaves just gets bigger.

I guess I know what I'm doing this weekend.
And yes I drove away like this so I could share some leaves with the neighbourhood.

I have one big Tulip Poplar that's dropped 80% .... the rest haven't started yet... but it's about that time!

That TP was a volunteer about 20 years ago at my side fence.... it's probably 40' tall now and has filled my backyard a few times already in the past 10 days....

I heart Stihl blowers

I have four tulip poplars in my back yard alone. Three of them are about 5 years old and maybe 15 feet tall. (they grow fast)
The fourth one is a fully mature tree that is huge.

Some don't like these trees because they say they drop small branches each year.
I haven't seen much of that with mine.
I really like them because they make a perfect shaped/nice looking lawn tree.

They have huge leafs. This is from one of the 5 year old trees.

LOL.... i underestimated my TP... That sucker is at least 70-80' tall . The rain stopped and I decided to clear my back yard for about the 5th time in 10 daze.... The tiny red leaves are now falling too..... turned off the blower and then the wind starts up .

Oh well....

Keeps me from voting as much as I should

The high temp here today was 43 F and the wind was 15 mph out of the north.

Much too cold to ride on the JD. (for me)
