Are you still partial to Porsches?

You came here probably because you owned a Porsche. You may have sold it by now if you’re an old timer but you’re still here. Does that mean you’re still partial to the cars or just like the company? For me, it’s both. I’ve sold off both air cooled 911s but I still have a Boxster S. Plus I like bs’ing with you guys.

I still have both of my 911's...one for 20years, and the other for 15 years.
I still enjoy them, but mostly on sunny 70 degree days....lol

As far as fun driving...my Prelude and Civic SI are just as much fun and the mpg is X2 (and they have good heat and a/c)

I had an '88 targa. Now I've got an '08 Boxster S. I'd love to have an old air-cooled 911. I just generally like Porsche. I like other stuff as well, but I'm not likely to buy other stuff.

I sold my last 911 last fall and am really missing the brand. I bought a BMW 330 sport because I basically need back seats again since now I tote around the grandkids but I really miss the marquee. I’m thinking of getting a Macan so I can still have the utility and have the brand.

Contrary to rumor, yes I still have a fondness for Porsches. Mostly the air cooled though.

But of course, I enjoy the BS here...

All I have left is a tat... After selling my racecar, I got a 996TT that I kept less than a year but hated all the nannies. Bought a 75 and built a hotrod that was pretty fun. sold it after being up here in the mountains for a year & half and have not looked back. After racing I could not get the same challenge/rush driving a streetcar.

got into jeeps up here and that gets close to adrenalin of racing doing the trails we do without all the waiting around in the paddock between warm up/qualifying/race. not looked back

Yes still partial to them, will always be.

But I also enjoy the camaraderie here.

Also the wealth of accumulated knowledge.

Can't tell you how often the wife and I are discussing something trying to sort a problem and she'll say "ask the Pelican guys"

My first Porsche was in 1982, a long string since then (mostly 911 and various 914 variants from 80 to 300 hp), sold my last 911 in 2018.

My non Porsche cars have been almost always BMWs (E21, E30, E24, E28, E36, E90).

I was very active with the Porsches for decades, owning, restoring, PCA events and board of directors, etc etc. It was a lot of fun.

But it all ended in 2018. In finally sold my last 911 (because I never drove it anymore) and that was it. I doubt I’ll ever own a Porsche again.

Not quite sure why I lost interest. But I think a big part of it is they never made a car after 1989 that I was very interested in owning. Not saying they haven’t made any good cars. Just not anything I’m interested in.

Currently my entire little fleet (cars and motorcycle) are all BMW. In the end, BMW has held my interest for longer.

My 996 is in the garage for nearly 2 years now waiting on me to replace the AOS. Wife is in my a$ $ to complete the fix and sell. I'm afraid if I sell then it will be end of an era basically because the prices these days are absurd.

On another note, I've also had a fleet of Land and Range Rovers. Currently an LR4, two Disco IIs, and a P38 Range Rover. I got the P38 as a DD about 2 years ago for cheap. Now that the classic Range Rovers are going thru the roof in prices and desirability it is driving up the prices of the P38s as well. I'd say mine is worth double or more than what I paid.

Can't I just get something cheap and enjoy it without the entire market going crazy anymore?

But it’s really true of all car makers.
Look at various makes from 1970 or 1980, Porsche, BMW, Honda, GM, etc. They are all vastly different car in construction, materials, design, performance, etc.
A Porsche or BMW was made in Germany of mostly German parts.
These days, cars have become so standardized and “appliance-ized.” They get parts from the same suppliers and are constructed in the basically the same way, in factories all over the world (the new BMW M2 will all be Hecho en México, for example. A German driving in Germany will be driving a Mexican import BMW).
That’s all good news for the production of transportation vehicles in general, cars are made as cost effectively as possible and are more reliable and efficient than ever.
But there’s not much to differentiate brands anymore.

I tend to agree with this. Often expensive and complicated repairs are pushing me toward EV - just to avoid the DIY/dealer repair hassle. The ICE has run it's course. Look at Toyota Tundra - turbos, direct injection, variable cams, 10? speed trans. The ICE is getting pushed more and more into a corner.

Actually I think we are past peak ICE.
That occurred a few years back.
I think many makers, like BMW for instance, stopped any real development of ICE engines a while ago. Current BMW engines are basically time bombs cobbled together with small displacement and turbos.
And I get it, why engage in multi year multi billion engine programs for something that will be gone soon. Mercedes, for example, says their goal is to be all electric by 2030. That’s not far away,
