After cleaning with simple green, brake cleaner and some wheel bearing grease on the threads, it looks good. No need to clean it up more. It’s a working vice, not a show vice.

I checked the warranty date on the bottom and it’s a 1962 model. Three years younger than me.

$150 for the vice and $75 for the micrometers.

He threw in a knurling tool for free if anybody wants it.

He’s retired and tinkers in the shop doing wood work and clock repair. Very interesting fellow with lots of hand working tools he was selling.

Congrats on the great score with the Wilton! I'd pay that as the price of admission to the guy's shop, very cool, could spend hours there, and especially peppering him with questions. Image all that that guy knows.

Only $150? An absolute bargain. It will serve you well as long as needed....then hopefully go on to serve another well.

I broke an old parker and for a long time i used a modern one I dont know the brand maybe Irwin but it broke too. They are not made for sledge hammering. I know this now. But I bought a Woden vice used and it has served me well for many years. Since then Iv collected a bunch whenever they are available from garage sales and such. Now iv got like 8 or 10 various sizes and brands waiting their turn to do work.

You could use your vise to smash your vices.

I bought one of these in 2006 for $50. It’s still working perfectly.

I should’ve gotten a better picture, but this is a manual time clock from a textile mill way back when. That dial in the front had a rod that corresponded to a number on the dial. You spun the indicator to the your employee number, pushed it in, a bell rang and it punched a paper cylinder with your in an out time. The accountant would remove the paper cylinder once a week.

^^^ The only problem I saw was that it only went up to number 32. So, you either had a max of 32 employees or you had multiple machines.

Old Wiltons are top notch vices and sought after.
If you have endless hours go on Garagejournal.

I used to enjoy going to old farm auctions. I got an old Wilton for $10 a few years ago. I was looking for an anvil, but never found one that went for less than $50, so I passed. I always enjoyed farm auctions and might try to get back to going to them again. They are good for old tools and such.

Did you get the 4.5" or the 5.5" version? I've looked at those for a while - the 5.5 takes up a big footprint, but I wonder if the 4.5" would frustrate me by its comparative limitations?

You cursed me! I quit reading after many garage journal pages. No date stamp on the slide of my Dad's old vise. Castings on the side are "835...Wilton..Chicago USA". Get the impression that it's a very early one..But man, 33 pages on Wilton vises...

That’s a nice looking vice. I like the fact that it’s got a large built-in anvil. Mine looks small and well used.
