How to cut a 12 x 12 x 3/16 metal square diagonally?

What’s the best way to cut a 12” x 12” x 3/16 metal square diagonally? I’ve got a miter box that I could partially cut the diagonals using a metal cutting blade, but then I would need to connect the two cuts. Throw a metal cutting blade on my circular saw?

Then I want to round off the edges. Probably too much for my jigsaw, so maybe my cut off wheel?

Shear

Find a local fabricator that has a shear, they should be able to make easy work of that!

Just remembered a steel fabrication shop we get flitch plates from. I’ll swing by tomorrow and see if I can at least get the diagonal cut.

If you were near me I’d put it on the band saw.

LASERS!

Ya need a CNC laser cutter. A friend of mine is a professional welder, and has his own company. He has a huge CNC plasma cutter table. It might be a bit of overkill to do that little piece.

Find a sheet metal shop with a shear, and have then cut it. It should be quick, easy and cheap and precise.

I forgot to take it with me to work today. Looks like I’ll be using the miter box and Skil saw. Stay tuned for pictures this weekend.

if it were me, I'd go after it with a chain saw.

Good thing you aren't me I guess.

Use a carbide chain for a cleaner cut!

How neat & clean does the diagonal cut need to be? That would dictate my approach... not 928 or 911 owners

You didn't mention how thick the material is. I have a plasma cutter that would probably cut that. The key would be to clamp some sort of guide bars along the cut line to make sure the cut is straight and accurate.

Low tech here.... I'd clamp a guide and use a hacksaw.

3/16.

I had a big shopping list at Lowe’s and I’ll be damned if I left the metal cutting blades on a shelf.

It depends on how exact and clean you want the cut. If it doesn't have to be perfect I'd use a cut off disk on an angle grinder.

But think how sweet your biceps would look in the open casket! Ask to be buried with a sleeveless shirt.

Hmmm..... depends on the closest tool to my reach. Sawzall, bandsaw, angle grinder..... would all get er done.

If you are into pain, use a dremel and alot of cut-off wheels.
