Always Watch Out for Pedestrians
I noticed they have been posting the watch for pedestrians message on all the message boards on the freeway. Normally it has something like watch out for the cone zone or about construction or a wreck up ahead.
For the last few weeks, all those signs talk about watching out for pedestrians. Are there a lot more people walking around on the interstate lately? Is this solely a Northern California thing, or is it a nationwide trend.?

Never seen that on the interstates here.
The signs are all 'Watch For Workers"

It used to have "Brake for the Cone Zone" or if there were a construction area or something, hours the exit ahead would be closed, that sort of stuff.
Last few weeks it is the pedestrian thing, seems weird. Saturday I was in the car with mom and she mentioned it as being sort of odd. Maybe they expect the homeless people to start roaming the interstates or something. Sounds like it is Northern and Southern California. Strange.

Maybe the signs are urging drivers to watch for pedestrians all the time, not necessarily on the freeway.
Or they could really mean on the freeway. Around here (Portland) a few homeless people are killed every year on the freeway.

It's for the homeless people living on the side of the freeway.

Around here it would be for the ratchets running from the po po across the highway after crashing out their stolen Challenger into an innocent commuter.

I made the mistake of driving through downtown LA with my truck and 20 foot enclosed trailer, at night, heading out to my son in law's family home in Palos Verdes last week. Picked up his Grandpa's original owner 65 Mustang. I don't know how many times I had to stop for a pedestrian walking against a light, middle of the block, etc. wanting to get killed. Same thing with the homeless in our town. One gets killed every other month or so.

Mack Alford Correctional is literally right on 43/69 in Oklahoma.
We see this sign every time we drive by. You know the sign exists because, it happened. ![]()

As someone who drives the interstate for a living and at night to boot, yes I have noticed a weird phenomenon of people walking and getting plowed on major freeways. The other night while driving through Fairfield on I80 I almost ended the life of a homeless person who was sitting cross legged right on the fog line. I noticed him about 15’ away. Luckily I wasn’t hugging the fog line otherwise he would have been a new hood ornament for my Kenworth.

My BP goes up every time I see one of the Cal Trans digital signs with stupid messages like that. How about messages like if it's raining, turn on your headlights? How about use your turn signals when changing lanes? How about don't tailgate? Instead we have stupid messages to watch for pedestrians on the freeway. All of the illegals flooding our Country are creating all kinds of problems for everyone.

Here we have people that live at underpasses of the interstate. Specifically, where there is an elevated section and lower section as well. No joke, when I was going home today this guy had his meal or whatever on the concrete barrier at the side of interstate where his 'house' is located.
This morning I saw people walking on a section of interstate. They crossed back over the barrier but still, stupid dangerous.

In Los Angeles they just legalized jaywalking. The homeless weren't paying their fines in a timely fashion and compliance was too much of a burden on that segment of society.

GTFO, seriously?
I guess that is sort of the same as the any theft of less than a thousand dollars worth of stuff is not worth prosecuting. In effect, stealing is legal, as long as you don't steal too much at once.

Most likely. Just yesterday, I was on Westbound Hwy 50 in Sac and saw a homeless man walking up the freeway from the gore point of the 29th St. exit. . . in the middle of rush hour.

It was 0500 on a Saturday. I was on Rt 287 in jersey on my way to watch my grandsons hockey game. The road slows and comes to a complete stop. At 0500. WTF? After 15 minutes a Statie comes by to say that a pedestrian tried to cross the roadway but only got halfway.
