Damn near dead broke ....

It ain't about how much ya make either ....

Travis Kelce earned around 3.85 MILLION for his rookie season and all he had to show for it was some nice shoes by the end of season .... WTF?

$pend it if ya got it .... ???

Hard to fathom ... the thread title is how he described it.... seems it happens to more than a few

Better let what's her name pay for their "dates" !

If you grow up broke you have no idea how to manage money when you finally get some.

Or, you may just think that you'll always be able to get more.

Finally, I'd like to know his definition of dead broke.

Just a gut feeling here; I would imagine ol' whats her name probably has pretty good guardrails in place to make sure her billion sticks around for a while, in spite of what Travis might be thinking.

78% of NFL players are broke within 5 years of retirement. 60% of NBA retirees. The biggest bulbs on the tree aren't necessarily the brightest

Generally speaking we as a society aren't taught from an early age the value of saving money . It's spend spend spend to have the latest and greatest widget . Not everyone falls into this but the majority do .

The average Joe gets into credit card debt as an example and digs a deep hole . Poor people get into trouble with title loans or similar. High $$$ athletes are no different other than the amount of $$$ they piss away .

So lack of education , no personal discipline and you surround yourself with leeches . A recipe for financial disaster . There are way too many examples to deny the truth . Of course there are exceptions.

Many if not most lottery big winners blow all the money and are broke a few years later as well.

I know how hard I worked for my money, and I learned at a young age, it is way smarter to save some money from every income source. It is one reason I never spent one single cent on illegal drugs, as they are expensive! Beer was cheap, and I had a budget for beer. I even had a budget for dating. Dating was (and likely still is) expensive for men.

How about teaching it in the home?

They can’t even teach math and reading in the schools that need it most. History is a thing of the past, too,

This can't happen w/o enablers.

The world of talent management is filthy rotten. Has always been.

Some just "get it" .... some just don't imo.

Both ends of the spectrum out of the same homes and schools.

Most here "get it"...

Travis didn't ... and he doesn't GAF either

It's almost like financial Darwinism. People too stupid with money (crash and burn), and it ends up in the hands of others who are, well, not so stupid with money (bar owners with VIP lounges, $1,000 bottles of champagne)

You misspelled 'new best friends'.

The same seems to be true with lottery winners.

Who's supposed to teach it? If your parents are poor, they're not going to be much help. People talk about school courses, but we learned about nutrition and contraception in school - how's that working out?

Heck, the NFL and NBA have courses on money management for rookies to specifically address this and the post-career stats are still bad.
