Car guy(s) in your neighborhood?

I've been at this address for right at three years, and took a slightly different way the last 1/2 mile. WTF is that in front of me? It's a 60s-70s blue Cadillac, tailgating a slow moving Chevy van. The caddy was weaving a bit, and I saw a chain coming off the van. Poor old caddy was being towed home. I followed the guy and he's not got THREE of 'em in his driveway. All of 'em are older (60s-70s): four-door, another coupe (on a trailer) and now a third. I saw a license plate on one: DNOSAUR

I'll try and drop by to say hello and try and get a few pics this week.

There's a classic British guy local. Fully restores them, but is quite the prick with a terminal degree....

I had the nicest neighbor, a Car Guy’s Car Guy.

Drives a 1967 VW bus as a daily driver but has a 1958 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, (convertible not gull wing) and a 1987 Testarossa with 12,000 miles in the garage. The garage is set up like a full working mechanics shop. Does his own maintenance and even showed me how to do some repairs on my 986 when I had it.

Still comes by during the holidays to string Christmas lights for the elderly residents on the block.

A real class act.

Several here. Guy down the street had a McClaren for a while. I think I mentioned the former president of IMSA bought a house about 4 doors down and he has an original widowmaker 930. They've since moved. There's also a (guessing '66) Chevy SS 396 that cruises by - in blue!

Not too many near me - I guess I'm the car guy in the neighborhood. One gentleman down the block has an early 70's Suburban; his son is driving a '68 Fury and both have a handful of motorcycles.

Not really I guess they know they cant hold a candle to my hoard. There is a guy on the next road with a bunch he doesnt really drive a few cordobas an early 50s ford and a comanchee pickup. One guy I think has a superbird but he never talks about it. Supposidly he keeps it out of town at a museum. One of the old timers had a minty pagoda mercedes but he sold it a while back. I wish I would have inquired about it. Im sure he bought it new but he isnt a car guy really. And there is a guy that had a few hudsons now he is into model A's they are just project doodlebugs really but I think he drives on on the road Iv never seen it out though. Alot of the neighbors like my cars and coming over to see what im working on so thats cool. Some of them even go to local car shows they just dont own anything themselves.

One neighbor a couple blocks away is a Porsche guy. He's got a G-body 911, a 914 (don't know if it's a -6 or not), and more recently a 996TT cab. We're friendly, but strangely we've never gone driving together.

There's a Jeep guy and the end of the block. Never spoken with him before.

Otherwise not a lot of other car guys in my neighborhood of about 4 blocks x 4 blocks.

There's a guy into French cars a couple blocks away with one of these, along with a couple of DS21 sedans ↓

A friend of mine around the corner has a Europa like this ↓

And someone up at the end of the block had a DeLorean for a long time but it was recently sold.

There is one guy in my neighborhood with a 2020 Corvette. Other than that, just appliance cars or pickups. And then there is me.

At my normal residence, my neighbor across the street was a cop, and had some cool cop cars. Next door to him, the guy has an old 60s truck in the yard, and a hipo Ford he was parting.

In town, where I have been for the past year, a guy on the corner has some cool cars. He has a kei van and a 72 Cuda was there the other day. He's had some other cool cars like a nice 911sc and 60s/70s Detroit iron. The guy on the other corner has JDM cars like an R34 Skyline, 240Z, 240sx... Somebody down the street has a 987 Cayman with bolt-on rear fenders running stock wheels. lol

Everybody is fairly dispersed where I live, but you see cars around all the time. There must be lots of them in garages. I see 60s/70s muscle cars, a Ferarri, some Porsches (newer ones, a 912 & a '71 914), a Lotus 7, antiques, & hot rods, and don't forget the old pickups. There is a local restaurant (there are only two) where people come up from the city during the days and weekends. So you'll see lines of motorcycles, sports cars (clubs & exotics), antiques, & hot rods lined up at various times. My neighbor across & down the road has a Karmen Gia with a 2300cc engine & a split window VW in his garage.

There is only one other car guy around here. He has got a lot of cars. His favourite one is an orange Lamborghini that is some high spec model. It sounds really good.

In my immediate neighborhood, there are (4) different homes with interesting cars:
- me with the 3.2 911,
- a late model 'vette,
- a red IROC-Z,
- and a '66 Chevelle with a transplanted oversize big-block.

All of these are owned by "car guys".

There are more "car guys" in the neighborhood, but who have sold their projects, like the former owner of a '69 AMX (who lives across the street from the Chevelle owner) or my next door neighbor who works on a variety of cars & trucks (and who bought my long gone modified S-10 quite some years ago).

But mostly the neighborhood is populated with SUV's, late model 4 door sedans and heavily optioned pickups.

Eric Rickman Jr. lives about 8 houses from me. He has a few hot rods hanging around at all times. See some of his friend's car there too. Sadly he passed away about a year ago.

68 Mustang guy up the street and a couple more around but I do not know them.

There are a lot of car, truck and farm equipment guys in my area...the car guys are generally driving American cars of all vintages. There are a few really nice older Porsche's and other European models, but not much.

There are even some bigger rig restorers here:

I owned this dump truck for five years and drove many loads of stuff back to the farm. Sold it to two guys who restore them. See the tow vehicle.

The vintage tractor folks are a different breed!

Too many to count. Within a 20 block radius I've seen such as: A SAAB collector with a Sonnett and a couple of 99's; a guy with a couple of well-restored big-finned Dodges from the late-fifties-early-60's; a beautiful M5 E28, A fellow with a series-1 XKE in the process of a humble garage restoration; (This guy also owns a really nice mid 60's Cadillac convertible in white) a beautiful traditional '32 Ford hotrod in Tiffany Blue(with a flathead and Strombergs!); I see JDM vans all over the place - one fellow has two and they are very tastefully tricked out Safari style; there's a RHD Ford Prefect from England; A 1965 Buick Special (with a red grill- custom!) stored outdoors, yet stays clean all the time, a 1965 Ford Falcon Panel wagon that's been converted to 4WD; One guy is building a replica Holman-Moody Torino racecar;
...and then there's the hopeless romantics hanging onto the dream with clapped out cars that will never be restored but will never be sold, everything from a Fiero to an XJ12 and a mid-70's RR.

I'm forgetting far more than I listed here. I'm always seeing something new and fun.

(Porsche content - the beautiful black impact bumper G50 911 that I only learned about fairly recently but turns out the guy has owned for years.)

The guy next door has a purple1967 Barracude with a 340. He just brought home an old Waggoner with wood paneling that needs a lot of work.

The couple that we bought this house from had a 64.5 Mustang parked in the same spot that I park my 911 now.

Our neighborhood has almost all 3 car garages. The neighborhood covenant requires all vehicles to be parked in the garage, or in the driveway, and not on the street, and the city has an ordinance against parking in the yard. There are no cars parked long term on the street in my street. If is fine for visitors to park in the street during a visit, but not long term.

I love those restrictions. It is nice to look down the street and see well maintained yards and houses, and not one car. We work hard to have a nice yard, and attractive house.
