Gentlemen, Change your Socks!

I recommend "Icebraker" brand merino wool. Or SockGuy if you're fancy.

Icebreakers are warm as toast and last I looked, lifetime guarantee. SockGuy makes fun patterns if you like that sort of thing.

Agreed, wool socks kick butt, whether it's hot or cold.

Can't do that. unless I'm wearing sandles/flip-flops or something like that.

Wool socks don't/won't smell like other socks. Wool is superior in most ways to cotton/synthetics for wicking, comfort, antibacterial, etc....

Wool does too, but without the annoying "Darth Vader" breathing sound effects that you get from cotton.

Icebreaker, smartwool too, for all seasons. Cycling, skiing, sofa sitting, suit wearing. Pro-tip - buy two identical pairs at the same time so you can outsmart the sock gnomes. Three socks are far more useful than one after a tragic loss.

Never had either brand quit on me either, unlike some "quirky/dressy" cotton ones back when that was in style.

When I was researching made in the U.S.A. brands, I found Darn Tough Socks made in Vermont. They are all I buy now. And as you would expect, are amazing socks.

As a New Zealander are you jealous of the fine wool that Australia produces?

Many years ago, I wore Birks almost the entire year. At work, we were pretty casual. We weren't allowed to wear "flip flops" but from my point of view, sandles and flip-flops while pretty similar are not the same. I got away with it. When it was 40º outside, I work socks with my Birks. I think I switched to more ordinary shoes when I changed jobs.

And wool is the only material that I'm aware of that will keep you warm when it's wet. There may be synthetics that do too but what do I know? I hate all forms of clothing. Uncomfortable and restrictive. One of these days I'll be arrested

Ah ha, I'm pleased you asked. I'm one of the most qualified people in the world to answer that question. I have a "Wool and Wool Technology" diploma from Massey University. I used to work in the industry back in the seventies and eighties. It was our third biggest industry back then. And used to be a wool classer in Australia too.

Umm, same stuff. Which is quite odd as their Merino sheep live in the heat and dust and dirt. Not enough water etc. Whereas or Merinos live in the mountainous south in the snow and ice. We have Italian suit makers coming out here visiting the farms to plan on who to buy from and paying phenomenal money at the auctions for the lots they want. I guess much the same happens in Australia.

Icebreaker (a New Zealand company) just uses the cheap stuff. The good fine wools go into making light weight suits.

So we should buy suit material to have socks tailor made?

OK, this is cool, I know a guy with a Wool and Wool technology degree! I suspect there aren't many folks that can say that.

I'll bet you got all of the ladies!

What's that saying.

New Zealand, where the men are men and the sheep are nervous!

Or is that Australia?
