Another airshow crash, this one in Texas

Very little information available right now, so most of the reports so far are probably wrong, but a B-17 Flying Fortress and a Kingcobra are apparently involved.

All my best regards to everyone involved. Not a good Veteran's day weekend...

Edit, sorry, I'm late to the show; didn't see that the Aircraft thread already had this news up and going. Mods, maybe remove this post?

Dallas area?

The Commemorative Airforce is having their Wings Over Dallas this weekend. B17 Texas Raiders was scheduled to be there. A King Cobra was also scheduled.

Damn.

Por_sha911 11-12-2022 02:42 PM

Wow that really sucks. Looks like the smaller plane was at fault.
Anyone know what aircrafts were involved?

Wow, really horrible.

And yes, looks like the little guy "rear ended" the big fella.

B-17 “Texas Raiders” and a P63.

Por_sha911 11-12-2022 03:36 PM

I suspected it was the B17. I don't think that one will buff out.:(

stevej37 11-12-2022 03:37 PM

Looked like the P63 was doing twice the speed of the B-17

Another angle:

Godspeed to those involved, and prayers for their loved ones. Unbelievable.

That's horrifying! :( ... How many people were on the planes?

javadog 11-12-2022 04:33 PM

Initial reports are five on the B-17 and one in the P-63.

rfuerst911sc 11-12-2022 04:43 PM

Just horrible to watch . RIP for those lost and peace to their loved ones .

Mott005 11-12-2022 04:45 PM

Very horrible

HobieMarty 11-12-2022 04:50 PM

Oh my gosh that is terrible. How does something like this happen. I'm pretty sure that the mock dogfights are choreographed right? Maybe their speeds were off or something? So sad for the people involved also, prayers for the families.

Looking at the crash from that angle... IMO the pilot of the smaller plane could see the larger plane and he had plenty of time to avoid the crash. All he had to do was pull up.

pavulon 11-12-2022 06:04 PM

There will be no way to definitively know, but the P-63 pilot may have been looking left and not noticed or expected the B-17 until it was too late (if at all).

Eric 951 11-12-2022 06:18 PM

Damn. I got this from them way back when they were still the "Confederate Air Force" looks like the same plane.
