Energy drinks and blood pressure

Lately I’ve been feeling a little dizzy. Doc says it’s a touch of vertigo which is normal as one ages. I’m only 59 though. At my last physical, my BP was 138/80. I just checked it now because I’m feeling dizzy again and it’s 140/100. That’s really high for me because it’s always been normal until recently. What I forgot to tell my doctor is that I’ve been having a can of Zoa Energy Drink daily. That’s the brand that Dwayne the Rock sells.

I’m not a fan on his but I do like the taste of the drink plus I like the pick me up. I’m going to stop it for a while and see if my BP returns to normal. I didn’t know that energy drinks can cause high BPs. That was dumb of me.

Everything you read about energy drinks says they're bad for you and promote the situation you're having along with other things. I was never attracted to them because of that & the fact I don't like anything that jacks my body around.

I’ve had hypertension since before I was 30. I’m not obese, stay active, but have a history of working in high stress jobs and actually giving a 5hit.

I can’t do energy drinks. I can feel my heart race when I drink them, my normal hart rate is 55 bpm. I take BP meds and they keep everything in check, I recently fired some a55holes from my life and that in itself was good for lowering my BP by another 10 points.

That's pretty high BP. If it stays that high without the energy drink, you might be a candidate for medication.

A full 24 hours without a drop of energy drink or coffee and my BP is back down to normal for me at 118/78. Whew! No more Zoa but coffee is really hard to give up.

As someone who just got their cholesterol down to normal and am working on hypertension, please don’t use energy drinks. They are too high in Niacine and caffeine. High doses of Niacine can make your heart race like crazy.
