Pie
What is your preference from these three holiday pies?
|
None of those.
|
Sorry...I can't eat any of the choices.
|
I've never heard of a Pumpkin Pecan pie.
I prefer Pecan pie. |
You should have included 'Apple Pie'
|
I’ve heard the term mincemeat pie, but had to Google to see what’s in it.
Seems like its easier to list what’s NOT in it! Geez. apples, apple cider, candied cherries, brown sugar, apricots, dried cherries, cranberries, currants, figs, orange zest, orange juice, golden raisins, raisins, schmaltz, allspice, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, salt, and ¾ cup rum |

Pecan pie is the best. Or...almond pie. |
Anyways, pies and cakes are all pretty much the same to me.
Just slightly different ways to hold a bunch of sugar together:) |

I always thought Mince Meat pie was Pecan pie but maybe I'm wrong about that. I like both but this is my fav:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1669244955.JPG My wife and I put together an apple pie this morning. |
I worked with a guy that lived his life in the Netherlands until age 30.
He would sometimes bring in an Almond Pie that his wife made. A small slice was enough for anyone and it was the best pie that I've ever had. He said that the main ingredient was butter.:) |
Pecan pie, slightly warmed with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream on top. As the ice cream melts it runs into all the cracks and crevices of the pie, oh my delicious heaven!!!

And then there's always the 'left overs' from the apple pie makings which end up as a cobbler of sorts kinda.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1669245268.JPG I see this has already been sampled... |

You have that right....vanilla bean ice cream makes any pie great! |
My mom makes awesome Pumpkin and Sweet Potato pies ... Pecan doesn't suck either ...
Fruit pies are summer pies .... I do like pie :)! |

I voted pumpkin. I'm not really a huge fan of pumpkin pie, but I've had some that I liked.
I've never had or heard of pumpkin pecan. I think I had mincemeat somewhere many years ago when I was a kid. I don't think I liked it. I might like it today. If I got to pick, I'd go with traditional pecan pie. I like chocolate pie, but I don't really associate that with Thanksgiving. My mom used to make what she called a French apple pie, which apparently is also called Dutch apple pie or streusel apple pie. The only or at least, main difference between that and a regular apple pie is that instead of crust on top, it's got a brown sugar crumble on top. |
"Why do they call it mince meat pie?"
The reason mincemeat is called meat is because that's exactly what it used to be: most often mutton, but also beef, rabbit, pork or game. Mince pies were first served in the early middle ages, and the pies were quite sizeable, filled with a mixture of finely minced meat, chopped up fruit and a preserving liquid. |
So this must be a poll... I don't see any pies listed in the OP, or polls on mobile view...
|
Never heard of pumpkin pecan pie.
|
I prefer pumpkin. But then a quandary that deserves it's own poll is what to top it with?
Cool Hhwwhip, Reddi-Whip or homemade whipped cream? And what's with the cheese slice on apple pie? I've seen that in the truck stops. |
Pumpkin pie is alright, but my favorite would be strawberry rhubarb or olallieberry pie.

I make a lemon meringue pie that would be the best you ever tasted. |
Clearly, y'all need to try pumpkin pecan. You will never eat regular pumpkin pie again.
Mom always made mincemeat pie for her mother, yuck Apple is not a holiday pie flavor. Pumpkin and Mincemeat are the classics, Pumpkin Pecan is just way better than a regular pumpkin. Strawberry rhubarb is also excellent, but not so much of a holiday season pie. |

I drive around the bays to Blue Belle cafe to have a butter chicken pie. It's my happy place in the world.
Maria always wants to give me hugs too, and I'm happy with that! |
Maybe I've never had a good pecan pie but the ones I've had seemed to be mostly sugar.

Made 2 pecan pies today. They beautiful thing is the color is different this year. I plan on telling everyone that I screwed up, and that they probably won't like them. Hopefully they stay away.
I like key lime pie the best. |

^^^ And I thought I got strange looks by opening my brown lunch sack at school and eating a sliced cow tongue sandwich. :)
(which are great tasting) |
Pigeon Pie in Restoration Period England (1660-1688). This is from a British series where the two presenters go back in time, live in a home, wear the clothing and eat foods of the time. Fascinating and fun show if you like food and it's as humorous as it is interesting and educational. WW2, 70s, Elizabethan (Shakespeare) times are all great ones.

homemade whip cream Yes or no on the ground nutmeg on top of the whipped cream for the punkin? Cheese and apple pair well, especially with a nice French Colombard wine. Fruit pie, give me some of that mode stuff Pigeon pie is more of a main course. Not as bad as possum, but a bit gamey. I guess maybe if you soaked it in milk first, that works for fish. Glen, you grumpy OLD mug, I got your poll. Peach pie, with nice fresh peaches from the backyard, with some good vanilla ice cream on it and some coffee, yeah, that sounds good. Maybe next August. |
Yuck on all of the poll choices. If that was all there were, and I was still hungry, I would go hungry.
Fruit pies are my choice. Apple, Cherry, Peach and others. |

Still, my favorite is pecan. Pecan chocolate is OK (I LOVE chocolate), but I'd rather have pecan OR chocolate, not both in one pie. Quote:

We used some really big Granny Smith apples for this one, peeled by yours truly and evenly sliced in the Cuisinart. I've found that homogenization of the ingredients really helps with the taste of stuff I cook. So the more evenly the slices of apple are the better they cook. YMMV. SmileWavy |
