vinyl plank flooring in a garage?

My contractor is recommending vinyl plank flooring for my garage remodel.
Half of the garage will be used as a workshop/art studio.
The other half will house the porsche and normal garage crap.
He has one other garage- used primarily as RV storage. Vinyl has held up for 3months- not much of a test.
Any experience with wood look planks in the garage?
thanks
Gary

If you have some rocks stuck to your tires, wouldn't it really mess up the vinyl?

I'd say vinyl plank would be too soft for a garage but all depends on how much "work" will really be done on it. DON"T put jack stands on it.

Vinyl and summer sun is not a good mix!

Sent them all back for a full refund including shipping....

I had not thought about the heat. The carrera is not cool in the summer when it rolls in.
I will specifically ask about that.
5yr warranty- which I will make sure is specifically written for a garage- still questionable to me.

Nope.

VCT tile, pro installed epoxy, or acid stain with a clear coat.

Epoxy and Urethane floor coatings are current state of the art for concrete. Stained concrete with a Urethane coating is the current fashion trend.

Durable and tough, but you can't send in an untrained worker to throw it down like vinyl plank.

The reason vinyl floor planks are being recommended by installers is that they are being used in high traffic areas like grocery stores, walmarts, etc. an standing up well. Don't think that is the same abusive environment as a garage floor.

get your floor polished and sealed. vinyl nonsense is probably just high profit margin and dirt simple install.

i really can't imagine a better coating for a nice garage.

This is a great option, for sure. It all depends on how dressy you want it.

Is he saying drop the planks on the whole floor or just the studio side?

I can't imagine the planks holding up well on the car side. Go check out a hospital and see how old the floor is and how well it is holding up. They stuff they use is better then the planks (usually) and gets replaced more often than you think and that is just beds and wheelchairs beating it up.

Although some people explain that vinyl flooring for garage is good while for other rooms with high humidity level is not too good, but in real, there are still many people install vinyl flooring for rooms instead garage...............

The most appropriate type for garage flooring is Vinyl composite tiles known as VCT.................
That first picture I posted with the blue Camaro scares the heck out of me, and the heat issue mentioned is a big worry.

VCT is pretty durable, one client of mine wanted to finish out his garage floor with it as a shop for bicycle repair, I steered him in the VCT direction. I think for automobile use the traditional concrete finishes and sealers might be best (epoxy etc..)

I think if going with ceramic tile one must take precaution to set that tile deep, if the tile is just floating on the thin-set no telling what could happen over time.

Sundeck (probably many others) make/install a cement planking look. Tuscan planking they call it. It's beautiful.

Just talked to the Sundeck rep here (30 feet away from me at the industrial complex) and he says LVP (Luxury Vinyl Planking) is the wrong choice.

Says the cement is fine for an ordinary guy but If you are churning work out not a good choice either.

VCT needs to be waxed if you want it to hold up. Your first spill of oil without wax will get into the joints and you won't get it out.

We have 100,000's of square feet of VCT in the hospital. It is not the perfect material. I'd paint or stain the concrete if it was mine.

Isn't vinyl plank floor floating?
Not a good idea to have a floating floor in a garage.

No they were talking about glueing this down.
I am getting quotes from for epoxy/urethane coatings - likely go this route. Sure would look good though.
Thanks again
