They Said He Was An Ambitious Man
Upon his 32nd birthday Julius Caesar cried for by that time in his life Alexander had conquered the world, and Caesar felt that he had accomplished nothing. Caesar once commented when crossing the Alps that it is better to be the head man in a village than number two man in Rome.
Caesar upon the defeat of Pompey at Pharsalus sat at the top of the Roman world with no equal. Even though he was awarded accolades and honors he wanted more. He wanted the proud Romans to bend their knee and acknowledge him as their king. As Cassius stood over Caesars bloody body at the foot of Pompey's statue in the Senate, he was over heard to say, "What good does your ambition do for you now Julius Caesar." Where upon he dropped his bloody dagger next to Caesar's body and walked out of the Senate. Caesars grand nephew Octavian always proclaimed himself to be the "First Citizen" during his long tenure in Rome, yet there was no mistake after Anthony and Cleopatra were gone as to who wielded supreme power in Rome.
