Which concrete sealer?

Hi Guys,

Would you choose Acrylic Concrete Sealers or Penetrating Concrete Sealers (Water repellent)?

Which concrete sealer from Home Depot have you used? Can you explain why? To me, they are all suppose to repel water rigth?

Thanks in advance.

Never used one...don't think anyone I've ever known has either. My driveway & sidewalk are 3 decades old...still perfect...YMMV.

Most do not work over time. Call Southeast concrete and they will sell you the right product. That's where the pros go, Ron. Home depot stuff is like spit. Thomson's sealer do not work after a few months. Buy yourself a pressure washer, that will make your driveway looking clean every few years.

I have used the acrylic sealers for pavers, but never for concrete slabs.
Makes the pavers look nice for a couple months.
Is it worth it...maybe. Some like the natural look more.

Only a few months? My drive way is color stamped, I love it. The seal they did was perfect for a few months, then it start showing the white stuff at the seams. I though it was because they didn't do the job well enough. I need to seal it because I do park the cars out there, in case oil leaks on it... But only a few months then it is such a hassle.

I will try. Yeah, I bought a power washer for this reason.

Thanks guys.

Yup to that. I sealed a small section of french drain in the shade last year, after power washing spotless, but instantly got heavy green mildew/leaf stain again this year.

Hot and dry conditions will help with surface penetration.
Apply in the late afternoon. Work fast for consistency.
Slower cure will help give the chemicals a longer bond time.

I've used this on stamped concrete:
https://www.bontool.com/chemicals/boss-matte-clear-enhancer-low-voc-5-gallon-32-240

Added this for anti-slip (pool deck) https://www.bontool.com/chemicals/gator-grip-for-pool-decks-slip-resistant-additive-gator-grip-pool

If application is different, they have great tech support.

I also have colored, stamped concrete and need to reseal. The color in the stamping on the garage apron has pretty much disappeared due to weathering & not being resealed for a long time. So I'm looking for a quality sealer and will be checking this thread. The stamping under the patio & portico covers are OK.
"rnln", the white stuff you describe may be efflorescence. It's a white residue that probably needs to be treated with something like vinegar, scrubbed and finished up with a (neutralizing) solution of baking soda in water. After rinsing & drying, it can be resealed.

Get a siloxane based sealer..we use we use it on huge bridge decks, pier caps, fascias of structures..

Its nasty stuff...high VOC, but of all the commercially available masonry sealers its the shizzle...

Yes like all sealers,it does need to be re-applied...but municipalities NEVER do this..however you being a diligent homeowner you'll care more about your property than a town or city...

Siloxane sealer

You can cast(sprinkle) some powder on the concrete, and add a complimentary color to the sealer. Concrete 'stain' probably won't take because it was sealed. If you sprinkle water on it, and it soaks in (not beads) stain may work.

Garage
I asked my commercial flooring guy at work what to use on my bare concrete workshop floor. They use this stuff. Apply it with a pump sprayer. I've applied it to about 25% of my shop. I've put down 2 coats. The more I put down the more it will shine.

The new generation of concrete cleaners have made concrete sealing really not so necessary.

Zep makes the best one that I have used. Pour it on wet concrete, scrub with a push broom, hose it off. Looks brand new.

Thanks guys. Thanks Jeff,
Looking through their website, I see there is only 1product on sealer, unless they don't list it online. Does anyone know anything about this?

Ron,

I have a couple can of those things sitting around the shop for a long time. I dislike it. Call them and they should be able to steer you toward the right direction.
