Bah Humbug! Anyone else not feeling Xmas this year?
As a child, I liked Xmas. As I got older, it became a non-event. Probably in the past 20 years or so, I didn't even care to open presents. Mom would always get depressed during the Holidays as my dad passed in December '77. Now, I am really feeling the loss of her and my sister, making me dread Xmas.
Anyone else feel the same out there? |
After the 2 hurricanes and Mom's health situation I am not as much "in the spirit" as usual.
Still trying to play catch up with so many things. That said, I still have some lights up, sent cards off, and am trying to get into the spirit..... |
Some years it seems harder than others. This year we've had such a warm November and December that it is a little tougher but I'm getting there.

It's not my jam. Stressful, and I find the commercialization just nauseating. Oddly, I go all out for Christmas for my daughter. She loves Christmas, and I love seeing how happy it makes her. She is 19 and home from college, and wants to bake cookies and get lights on the tree, am I happy to oblige.

Not very much yet...especially after spending most of today clearing broken branches off my lawn from an ice storm last night.:)
Kids are the ones that love the specific day. Which is great. |
Yes, I really despise the commercialness of Xmas. Don't get me started on pumpkin spice! Pumpkin belongs in a pie.
|
I’m feeling it, this is one of my favorite times of the year….yeah, the commercialization sucks, but I try to look past that and just enjoy the times with friends and family. Like many things, it’s all what you make it. Merry Christmas!

I have not been excited about Christmas, since I was about 15. Of course there was a time when the kids were young and they were excited about Christmas. That was fun.

my mom, sister and aunt found something online deal to mix this year up. we have done a draw thing with the extended dozen or so people in the fam forever. it got that everyone was handing a gift certificate one person to the right or left odd numbered years. the gag gift thing used to be fun, but as best I recall I ruined it somehow like 15 years ago or so. it grew old way before i soiled it.
we are doing a deal this year where we are to wrap a $50 or so non perishable food or drink item and then we will have an auction bidding & buying the wrapped gifts. my mom n the gals printed up some fake money we will have to spend while bidding along with the rules by mail... A couple hundred bucks in a number of domination of bills to play the game. gunna prolly go to the dope store and wrap up some gummies for my offering... hope somebody wraps up some whores and coke for me to bid on!!! have not had a christmas tree in like 30 years, wrap all my presents in the same paper from the new roll, and looking forward to some craziness this year for once... i might even get myself a handful of gummies... |
Merry Christmas

Yeah, I'm not feeling it either, sick of it already.

One thing I am glad for, is radio stations are not playing Xmas music 24/7. Only one I listen to does that. All the others have gone to regular music with an Xmas song thrown in once in a while.

Not feeling it at all. Wife has been sick with COVID all week, I've been pushing hard at work for months without a break, and am in just a bah-humbug mood...
|
Geez I thought I was bad. I lived alone for 15 years before I got married 5 years ago. Never had a tree or sent a card or did anything. Now the lights are on the house, inside is all decorated. Tree is up. And she is an amazing baker and has been baking cookies all week, including right now. I like it. One thing I notice is, my wife is very religious. For her, Christmas is about Jesus and she celebrates all that. I’m not religious. I’m still enjoying it more than I did for most of my adult life
And I get to play my Christmas with Chet Atkins record |
I do ok. Lights on the house and a tiny tree inside.
I have been wearing a Santa hat when out and about this week. It does put a smile on a few faces. |
The Flatbutt clan has adjusted by cutting back on the gift giving and focusing on family time. The children still get gifts just not like it used to be. We gather at one house on Christmas Eve. then at another in the PM of Christmas Day. Some recovery time then we gather again with the extended fam just after New Years day. My house is lit up nicely.

Opposite. I have a new 22 yr old daughter. She came into my family when my friend died. I bought her a monogrammed stocking to match my other children’s stockings. We bought a ton of stuff for her. She had had an awful year and I am very pleased to be a positive influence. Merry Christmas!!!

Love the positive posts and feel those who don’t have the vibe like others. For me Christmas is about family and giving to non family members who are in need. Life is short, even though I am not religious, agnostic, I embrace and love the spirit of giving and love especially to others. Peace and love to all this month!

We've always been a "Christmas Family". Wife is German so she has it bad.
Lockdown was rough and we hadn't been able to gather until last year. We all got COVID 4 days before Christmas and the kids eventually fled back to Phoenix Christmas Eve. My Wife swore that we wouldn't be celebrating Christmas again anytime soon. Well, she's been watching Christmas movies on the Hallmark Channel since July so after Thanksgiving we've been back in full swing. Lights, tree, Advents wreath, the whole nine. I knew it wouldn't last long. We're both suckers for Santa. |
I just got yelled at for wrapping presents wrong. The sooner this is over the better.
