My vehicle marketplace - white car - snow tire - idiot drivers - pickup hunt thread

I guess I found the limit to thread title length. Had to revise it a few times to make it fit.

1. The pickup truck hunt is over. I was originally looking at F-150s, ended up with another Silverado. For what I wanted, the Chevy ended up about $4000 - $5000 less than a comparable Ford. Part of that is Ford options only available on higher trim levels, that are on the LT Chevy.

2. It's a white truck. My first. Maybe it won't be as hot inside when sitting in the summer sun. I wish the seats weren't black, but at least they aren't leather. Still heated. No cooling. Oh well.

3. They put some big mud tires on this truck. They've got to go. Not that great in the snow. Loud on pavement. Too big, they rub the upper control arms when turned all the way. I have some Firestone Winterforce on older Chevy rims that should fit. The old rims should technically have a 5mm spacer to match the new trucks, I'll have to see how they fit.

4. Snowed all the way home. Everyone slower than me is a moron, everyone faster than me is an idiot. Goes without saying. I drove about 50 on the interstate, a few cars and pickups faster than me, lots driving slower. Only a few in the ditch. There were times you couldn't see either the center line or the fog line, so I just drove about 8 ft off the berm of snow from previous plow work. If I hit the rumbles, moved over a little more. Lots of plows out. People who drive with their flashers on should be pulled over, their license cut up in front of them, and their vehicle pushed into the ditch. Some semis have started doing it too.

5. Market pricing. I was going to mention in the vehicle market thread, the kbb trade in value has been going down on my old truck. I think that's one of the first signs of a softening market. If they don't give you as much for your trade, then they can sell it for less, or make more profit on the sale. According to cargurus, this truck was listed about $2500 under what they think is a "fair" price, and it was easily the least expensive 2019 within 250 miles. Then they gave me about $1700 more for my truck than what kbb thought it was worth. So overall, I feel good about the deal, but we'll see in the morning. Hopefully this is my last truck, I only buy them every 10 years or so, although it's only 7 since I bought the last one, but I sold the daily driver and this is the now the daily, except I'm working from home now, so it still won't get driven much.

I hope that covers everything. Oh yeah, pitchers.

Tires that have to go.

Looks like a nice truck.
Is that the 5.5 foot bed and the extended cab? The back doors look smallish compared to mine.
I have a 2016 duramax one ton and love the truck so far. Picked it up in 2021 with only 24000 km on the truck. It is also summit white or service truck white and it is a colour that kind of grows on you.
I ended up getting an exact set of wheels off Kijiji and installed the right size Geolander all weather 3 peak/snowflake tires for winter. The original Wranglers I run in the summer for towing and are much quieter. Those big wheels/tires take up a lot of space when stored.

I shopped Ford, Dodge and Toyota and bought a GMC but the market was different back in 2017.

That truck looks a lot like my 2017 Sierra, which has been trouble free since new. I have gotten used to white. I couldn't get heated seats with the SLE trim, which I miss, but that's about the only thing I miss.

Those tires look like Duratracs - which are some of my favorite tires for mud, ice and snow. They aren't dedicated snow tires, but I never felt like I didn't have enough traction with Duratracs. My experience with those was that the truck would go until it was high centered. They are noisy and they hurt fuel mileage, but traction is great and they wear well.

I say the same thing every day about people driving slow or too fast. I do 70 in a 65 and usually get past on both sides by dozens of cars. All within the city limits on an Interstate. Then there are morons that drive nearly 10mph under the limit. Hard to say which is more dangerous.

One guy this morning driving a Tundra that was towing a bunch of stuff. His rear bumper was lower than the front bc his load was too heavy. But on the Interstate he went. I looked up in my mirror just in time to see him change lanes and cut off someone, nearly causing a huge accident.

Flashers... Yep 100% spot on. Including those that park and put on the flashers because they are just going inside a business for a quick second.

Truth!

I drove through the snow storm last week in MN. what a schit show.

Jag offs with the hazards on driving down the i90 are absolute fools. I drove 90 kmh for most of it, but the ice and berms made it go down to 60kmh or less. some sections I was at 30 kmh and I was sliding even with snow tires. stupid state to drive in....

Then this is a timely thread, ha ha!

How do you display your wheel collections?

(And agreed - white cars and trucks are great.)

Double cab or extended cab, 6.5 foot bed. First pickup I've owned since the 90's that didn't have a 8 foot bed. More than missing the bed space, I'm going to miss the 34 or 36 gallon gas tank. With the old truck, going east, I could fuel in WI, then bypass IL and IN, and not fill again until we reached OH. Then the wife started riding with me, and we have to stop every 1 1/2 to 2 hours anyway.

I looked at a couple Sierra 1500 SLEs with heated seats. 2016 or so.

Double cab, 6-1/2 foot bed - that combo works for the way I use my truck. 26 gallon tank isn't ideal but I have grown used to it.

I wanted cloth, 60/40 front seat and no 20" wheels, running boards or steps - which meant no heated seats. I mostly have a truck for hunting, fishing, outdoor pursuits, road trips, projects around the properties. I'm as concerned about off road as on road.
I usually have one or two people and items I don't want in the bed stowed behind the seats. The extra length of a full crew cab or 8' bed makes the truck to awkward off road. My last truck had running boards, I ripped one off on my second hunting trip.

Looking at your truck I'm pretty sure the front end is leveled. I did after scraping the front spoiler for a few weeks.

My truck rubs the inside of the front tires at full lock and they are stock size. Some of my coworkers use spacers to avoid that. I just try not to over-use full lock.

The only dedicated winter tires I have tried on a truck were Blizzacks. They were great on snow but useless in mud. They were also soft and wandered on dry roads. I have stuck with snow rated AT's every since.

Please remember that rules regarding the use of 4 way flashers aka hazard lights, may vary from one jurisdiction to another. For example around here you will see signs along limited access highways which recommend the use of 4 ways below 70 kph. Truckers who are doing long haul are likely less concerned about some drivers' opinion regarding flashing lights on their slower moving vehicle than they are about being rear ended in poor conditions.

Nice truck, by the way.

Best

It may be a good time to consider a set of dedicated winter tires and wheels (ice or snow depending upon your driving needs) and whatever for summer. Mud and snow tires are not very comparable in performance to dedicated winters.

Tires rub after the truck is "leveled" (raised in the front and re-aligned) and the factory tires replaced with the same size but non-stock tires.

That rubbing can be adjusted out - but I prefer the option of the tightest steering I can get.

That seems like a pretty minor gripe to declare a truck "junk".

I'm sure anything you drive is perfect in every way and no owner has ever needed a repair.

Why level it?

When you tow.... it'll be looking very funny with the nose pointed to the sky....

At least in my case - my truck still has a visible rake to the front. Towing and loaded heavy - at worst it squats to "level".

This issue is that the air dam up front is to low as delivered. It's fine on the road but off road the approach angle is just to low. I'm sure they do that for fuel mileage but off road it just doesn't work. I have noticed that the newer, off road package trucks (ZR2, AT4, Elevation) are either leveled or lifted from the factory - not so much in 2017.
